    Hello support

I just updated TEC from 3.10 to the latest 3.12 version and noticed that now in calendar view the sidebar is shown. That was not the case previously.

How can I remove the sidebar from calendar/month view?

PS: I’ve looked at the themer’s guide but could not find the template where the sidebar is called.

PPS: In the plugin’s settings I’m using the standard template of the tribe events style.

    Hi Rafael,

    Sorry for the trouble here!

That’s really strange because The Events Calendar does not include a sidebar in the default template.

Will you please head to Events > Settings > Display and confirm that you are using the Default Event Template in your settings (screenshot)?

If that is already selected, will you also please look in your theme files and let me know if you see a folder in there called tribe_events? And, if that folder is there, what is in it?

Let’s start there and see what we find. 🙂

    Hi Geoff

    Thanks for your response.

Yes, in the settings the Default Events Template is selected. (Screenshot)

I’m using a child theme incl. a tribe-events folder with the following sub-folders:
    /community/
    ..several files

    /modules/
    ..bar.php

    /month/
    ..single-event.php
    ..tooltip.php

    /pro/
    ..related-events.php

I’m not sure if that’s of any help.

The strange thing is that before I updated the TEC plugin today, the calender view was full-width without the sidebar.

Do you have any ideas what the problem could be?

    Hey Rafael,

Thanks for following up–this is SUPER helpful. 🙂

The update from 3.10 to 3.12 was pretty significant and did include some changes that would affect template overrides, like the ones in the tribe-events folder in your theme. In other words, you had customizations in place and those customizations broke between those versions, which is why this is coming up.

Did you make those template overrides, or were they created for you? Either way, you’ll that’s where you will want to make adjustments to ensure the sidebar is not in place, particularly in the /month/ template and directory. Or, you could remove those customizations altogether and rely on the default templates that are provided by the plugin.

Does this help clarify things a bit more? Please let me know!

    Hi Geoff

    Thanks for your explanation.

It actually already had occured to me that the problem might be related to customizations. That’s why I looked at the themer’s guide and tried to identify where in the templates the sidebar is called, but I couldn’t find it.

Upon your suggestion I deleted the entire tribe-events folder from the active theme I’m using, to see if the problem indeed has to do with customizations. Apparently, it doesn’t. Nothing changed after I removed that folder.

I then reverted back to TEC 3.10 and (as expected) the sidebar was gone from the calendar view. I then updated again to version 3.12 and the sidebar re-appeared.

Next I switched the theme to WP’s standard TwentyThirteen and the sidebar was gone. When I switched back to the theme I’m actually using (which, by the way, is not an old or poorly coded one, but rather the widely popular Total theme) the sidebar was back again. (Despite the theme’s setting that pages have no sidebar by default.)

So it appears that my problem is in part related to the theme I’m using. But not entirely, because TEC 3.10 has worked and still works fine with that theme.

Do you have any other ideas what the problem could be from the TEC side of things?

Nice work pinpointing the issue down further! This is excellent information. 🙂

Does your theme (or any of your other plugins) give you control over where sidebars appear on the site? For example, it would be great to see which registered sidebar is being pulled in by checking the Appearance > Widgets settings in WordPress and matching the widgets to the sidebar on the calendar. From there, it might be easier to tell which sidebar is being called and which templates use it and might be conflicting with the calendar–which is a custom post archive template.

    Thanks!
    Geoff
