ParticipantHello,
We are in the process of re-designing a customer’s site. We’ll be moving the site to a new server and have built the new site on that new server. We want to move all of the existing events to the new site. I tried using the WordPress -> Tools ->Export -> and selected Events which generated an xml file. Then in the new site I tried WordPress -> Tools -> Import and selected WordPress and then selected the previously saved xml file. Although the process indicated that it completed successfully, there were no events imported. Is there another way to do this?August 18, 2016 at 5:46 am #1153060Josh
ParticipantHey Amanda,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
That is definitely odd, I wonder if there was something else going on that prevented the traditional WordPress import from working properly? I have seen this occasionally happen when there is a lot of content and it’s not necessarily dependent on a specific post type. Are there a lot of events that you are wanting to move over that may have been the cause here?
Another option here is I see that you do have a license for the iCal importer plugin. What you could do would be to use the iCal feed to import the events from the old site to the new. You can expand the view for a single import with the following snippet added to the old, existing site:
https://gist.github.com/cliffordp/ab1f7c4d95723ee6f892
Then, on the new site you’re importing into, add the iCal importer plugin and in the feed field there you can use the old site URL in the following format http://example.com/events/?ical=1&year-feed
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Josh,
Thanks for the followup. So the first part of your reply about a large number of events definitely holds true here. There are in excess of 5000 events in the system. Is there an easy way to purge everything except the last 6 months or so? If we can do that then I would try the WP Export/Import process again.
Thank You.

ParticipantHey Amanda,
Thanks for following up with us here. That’s definitely understandable, if the majority of the events are Recurring events, you can change the setting for the recurring events clean up to be 6 months in the Event Settings > General tab.
You could then use a plugin such as WP Crontrol to manually run the “tribe-recurrence-cron” there.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!
