ParticipantI’m developing a website using both The Events Calendar and several of the Toolset plugins by OnTheGoSystems, including the Layouts plugin. I really like both The Events Calendar and the Toolset plugins: They are important components which I increasingly rely on for client projects.
The problem is that these two plugins seem to be “allergic” to each other when I visit the Events URL slug:
- If I use the “Default Events Template” in The Events Calendar Settings, the calendar displays as expected but the header and footer I built with Layouts are not displayed.
- If I use the “Default Page Template” in The Events Calendar Settings, the header and footer I built with the Layouts plugin displays fine but the calendar is not displayed.
I have already opened a ticket with OnTheGoSystems and we have worked on this for several days to rule out any problems on the Layouts side. The verdict from OnTheGoSystems is this:
This Problem is due to the [Events Calendar] Plugin… We can not adjust how the plugin is bypassing the WP API and Loop.
What else (if anything) can I try on The Events Calendar side to get these two plugins to play nicely together? Frankly, I’m surprised these two plugins seem to be incompatible. Types (the main Toolset plugin) has 200,000+ downloads, so surely I am not the first person who has ever tried to integrate The Events Calendar by Modern Tribe with Layouts by OnTheGoSystems…

MemberHi,
Thanks for using our plugins.
I am limited on supporting 3rd party coding so I am not sure how much I can do here.
Our event templates are not pages, but archives so that can cause some issues.
On those templates we do modify the query for the page so we can display the events by the start date (among many other things) and not by the publish date.
Beyond that I do not have anything else on this unfortunately.
Let me know if you have any follow up questions.
Thanks

ParticipantBrian, this seems like an unacceptable answer to paying customers, especially since it sounds like the Events Calendar is not using WordPress coding best practices for plugin compatibility by bypassing the standard WordPress API and Loops. We have also been struggling with this problem for a while and desperately need a solution.
I would like to know if Modern Tribe would at least be willing to work together with OnTheGo Systems to solve this problem. OnTheGo Systems stated in Douglas’ forum post that they would be willing to do so.

ParticipantBrian, the website I am building is for a customer who needs the functionality of Events Calendar Pro. This customer has also expressed interest in possibly using your Eventbrite Tickets plugin down the road.
Unfortunately, it looks like I am going to have to explore the possibility of using a different calendar plugin (= lost revenue for Modern Tribe) unless Modern Tribe is willing to get together with OnTheGoSystems to fix this problem.

MemberHi Chris and Douglas,
Thanks for your input. I am going to have to respectfully disagree. We do indeed follow WordPress Standards to the best we can and I am going to disagree with the assessment with On The Go Systems that we bypass the API and the loop. However, WordPress was never setup to handle events. So all the event queries are custom queries if we did not do that we would have no event views.
Both our plugins are trying to help out the end user with something WordPress does not provide. We are providing a way to mange events and they are building a way to create customized templates without coding. Both are dealing with customized templates, which only increases the chance of conflicts so it is not surprising at all there is an issue.
Now having said that we are willing to work with any plugin developer or theme developer to try and resolve any conflicts, but will also do not guarantee compatibility with any additional third party themes, plugins, scripts, or applications per our terms and conditions.
I will talk to the team and see if we can get a hold of someone at onTheGoSystems and go from there.
Thanks

ParticipantHi Brian,
OnTheGoSystems is going to escalate this to a 2nd Tier ticket on their end. See https://wp-types.com/forums/topic/integrating-modern-tribe-the-events-calendar-with-layouts/
Thanks for your willingness to go above and beyond.

MemberHi,
I have reached out to Toolset to see what can be done.
I cannot provide a timeline nor guarantee we will be able to fix the conflict, but we are looking into it.
Thanks
