    I asked this pre-sale question:

We are looking at Community Events. Can we keep the Community Events calendar separate (visually) from our own non-profitโ€™s event calendar? We donโ€™t want community submissions blended into our own events. Too confusing.

    and the reply was:

Unfortunately there is not currently a setting to do this automatically, but you could use categories/tags to separate them out.

You would need to make a small tweak to your main calendar view to exclude that category.

OK. That’s good news. How is the “small tweak” done, so that the main calendar does not show the “community-events” category, but I can still short-code into its own display? (I did find some php snippets that hide a category, but they appear to permanently hide it.)

    Hi Chris,

I’m happy to help out here! ๐Ÿ™‚

    A couple things:

    1. Could you point me to your original Pre-Sales thread so that I can consult the team member you were working with?
    2. I think another (probably simpler) way to implement this may be to install our Filter Bar plugin and just link to the filtered version of the calendar (like this link that is filtered to the category, “WP Meetups”). Let me know if this won’t work for you for some reason. ๐Ÿ™‚

Let me know about these things, and we’ll go from there! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks,

    Shelby ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Shelby

    the original pre-sale link is:
    https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/presale-community-events/#dl_post-1321773

The filterbar looks to be the solution…. but, will it filter OUT a category, or will it only include? The difference is that as we add or delete categories, the filter always also needs to be updated to include/exclude. If the filterbar will -exclude- categories, life becomes much more simple, and maintaining the site is easier.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi again Chris,

If I’m understanding correctly, what you’re asking is definitely possible. You can filter by as many categories as you want and link to the calendar with that set of Filters as needed. ๐Ÿ™‚ For example, this link has both the categories “Tech Meetups” and “WordCamps.” ๐Ÿ™‚

If you’re having trouble getting anything to work as desired after you purchase and install the plugin, you can always reach out on the Filter Bar forum.

    Best,

    Shelby ๐Ÿ™‚

I guess I was not clear enough. Let’s say you have categories A, B, C and D in your calendar.

Your example is “show me a calendar with just B in it.

The resulting calendar would show only category B entries.

What I need is “show me everything in the calendar except B.

The resulting calendar would show A, C and D.

Do I need to ask in a different place?

    Hi Chris,

Apologies for my delay here. I took some time off, and we didnโ€™t quite have the coverage needed for the influx of threads we had while I was gone, so I really appreciate your patience!

You could definitely do a calendar like that, you would just select every category except B when sorting, and then link to that filtered version of the calendar. You would have to change the link as you add categories to your site, but it’s definitely possible.

So sorry I wasn’t clear about how I would recommend implementing this. I thought that indicating the ability to select multiple categories would give a good idea of what I was thinking.

Please let me know if you need anything else!

    Best,

    Shelby ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
