Following on from https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/how-to-add-year-long-ical-feed-to-month-view I’ve discovered that the feed doesn’t process the shortcodes embedded in the text of the events like the add to Google Calendar links do for individual events.

For example the event http://www.manchesterbuddhistcentre.org.uk/whats-on/meditation-club-3/ is processed fully before being sent to Google Calendar when I click on the Add to Google Calendar. If I look at the same event in the feed from the main calendar page at http://www.manchesterbuddhistcentre.org.uk/whats-on/ which is http://www.google.com/calendar/render?cid=http://www.manchesterbuddhistcentre.org.uk/whats-on/?ical=1%26year-feed=1 I can see shortcodes within the text. The same for all the other events in the feed.

I’ve also noticed that the iCal Export (.ics) file downloaded from http://www.manchesterbuddhistcentre.org.uk/whats-on/meditation-club-3/ also doesn’t have the shorcodes processed and I can see them raw in the file and when added to my calendar.

So maybe if this last issue is solved it would sort the issue for the extra code we added to the functions.php file?

    Hi Ajay.

    I confirmed this issue:

    1. Add a shortcode to a single event.
    2. Export this single event to iCal (from its Single Event page view), open in a text editor, see that the shortcode is rendered.
    3. Now export that month’s iCal feed, open that file in a text editor, see that the raw/unprocessed shortcode is in the Event’s post content.

I’ll mark this ticket as Pending Fix, which means this thread should receive a reply once the applicable fix has been released. I cannot guarantee when it will be fixed as it’s in the development team’s hands now. They need to assign it, code it, test it, and schedule it for release. I apologize for this issue and appreciate your understanding and patience.

Please let me know if there was another part of your question that I did not address.

    Thank you.

Thanks for passing this on to the development team.

However just to be clear it is a problem with iCal export of a single event – there is no rendering of the shortcode.

Where it does work is with ‘Add to Google Calendar’ from a single event – however all the information for the event is rendered in the link.

In my testing from your site, both “+Google Calendar” and “+iCal Export” (then opening the downloaded .ics in a text editor) render the shortcode’s content for the Event Description.

    Is this not your experience?

    Hi Ajay!

We apologize for the long delay in getting back to you in regards to this issue.

I just wanted to share with you that a new release of our plugins is out. It seems the issue described in this ticket was already fixed in one of our previous version of our plugins, but we failed to notify you about it.

You can find out more about this release → https://theeventscalendar.com/maintenance-release-for-the-week-of-27-may-2018/

We encourage you to update your plugins to the latest versions and see if this works for your site.

As always, we suggest to setup a dev/staging site so you can test things out and make all plugins, theme and WordPress core updates without disrupting the live site.

Don’t hesitate to open a new topic if anything comes up and we’d be happy to help.

    Best,
    Victor
