So I’m using the list-widget to display a vertical list on a sidebar and it works great. But I also want to display it horizontally (and styled differently) on the home page. *From what I can tell* I could easily do this if I could just clone the list widget so I’d have ‘List Widget (list-widget.php)’ and ‘List Widget Home (list-widget-home.php)’ and then edit the new home file to fit my needs on the front page of the site. Is that a correct assumption if so is there a documented procedure to do so?

That’s a great idea, but we don’t have any documentation specifically geared toward guiding you through this. If you are purely changing the styling, perhaps you could do this simply by leveraging appropriate CSS classes applied to the body (which will normally include a front-page specific class when you are on the front page)?

If you want to go beyond that and build and use separate templates according to some criteria (like whether or not it is being pulled in to the front page) you could certainly do so, but that’s a little beyond what we can help you with here.

    Barry,

Thanks for the response, I ended up duplicating the widget (just had to copy/rename/edit a few files). Now I have two separate widgets I can use independent of one another. Thanks for the CSS suggestion though.

Closing this thread as it’s been quite a while – of course if we can help with anything else please do create a new thread. Thanks!
