    Hi There!

Our website has been crashing a lot recently and after working with our web host’s (Site5) support team, it was identified that the problem was due to spikes in the database server load which is most likely caused by one or more of the plugins installed.

After running a scan using the P3 Plugin Profiler, it was shown that the plugins using the most resources and taking the most load time is the Events Calendar Pro plugin.

Can you please advise on how we can optimize the plugin to reduce server load?

Also, were there other users who faced the same problem? If so, how was it resolved?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hey Ryley,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

We’ve made some large strides in regards to performance with our plugins over the past year. However, there are still some limitations when it comes to large numbers of recurring events and events in general. Taking a look at your calendar, it appears there are about 140 events for each day of the month. We do have a baked-in caching option for the month view that should be release with the next update that may help.

As an option, are you currently using any sort of caching plugin on the site?

    Thanks!

    Hi Josh,

    Thanks for the reply.

Will we be notified when the update for the plugin is released?

As for the caching, we were using W3TotalCache but turned it off while we tried to identify the cause of our website going down.

Would it help to turn it back on (or maybe use a different caching plugin)?

Apart from this, is there anything else we can do that can help?

    Thanks!

    Hi Josh,

    Just a couple more questions…

    1) Do you have an estimated time of release for the new plugin update?

    2) We’re intending to move the events section and set it up on a separate server so our main site wouldn’t be affected if the events section goes down.

If we do that, will the export/import function in the plugin allow us to migrate all the events over to the new setup? (i.e. including all the photos, details, etc.)

    Thanks!

    Hey Ryley,

Thanks for following up with us. We don’t have a specific date for the next release but it should be coming shortly. We’ll be starting a final round of our Quality Assurance tests next week for the upcoming release.

If you would like to migrate the events, for ease, the best solution may be to migrate the entire site using something like the Duplicator plugin or BackupBuddy. Typically we suggest using the default WordPress export, however, if you export a single post type with the built-in WordPress tool the featured image attachments don’t get included with that XML file. You could then delete any unneeded content on the new site.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!

    Hi Josh,

    Thanks for the reply!

If we use the Duplicator or BackupBuddy plugins, they’ll export the entire site right?

Is there a way to export only the events?

    Hey Ryley,

Yes, they would backup the entire site. You could export the Events, Venues, and Organizers using the default export features of WordPress under the tools > export section of your WordPress dashboard. However, when you export individual post types that way, the Featured Images information doesn’t get exported with the XML data.

You could try a plugin such as https://wordpress.org/plugins/export-featured-images/ to see if it helps with that process and issue with the featured images.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!
