Hide Events From Countdown Only?

I’m using ECP with the Incarnation theme from Kriesi on Themeforest. At the top of their demo site it has an events countdown.

In previous versions of the theme that used older versions of ECP (2.0.x) it was possible for admins to hide an event from the countdown but still have them appear on the calendar. It appears that this is no longer an option per the 3.6.1 changelog that mentions: “Fixed an issue where the “hide From Event Listings” checkbox was not hiding events from Month View”.

This is driving me nuts. I hate that when I use ECP I can’t hide an event from the countdown any more without it also vanishing from my calendar. The theme developer stated they put in requests with Modern Tribe to get the same kind of functionality back but hasn’t had a response.

Is there any modifications that can be done to revert this change via functions.php? Or are there any plans to add in this type of functionality?

Hi – sorry you’re experiencing difficulties.

I’ll check in with the team about Kriesi’s request (I’m not personally aware of it, but someone else may have dealt with it) – but am I right in understanding this particular event countdown to be a feature of the theme itself, rather than our own countdown widget?

Without knowing how the theme is obtaining its list of events to use in the countdown feature it’s hard to guess why this would be the case. If you have any insights definitely feel free to share – otherwise if you can bear with me until I can track down Kriesi’s request that would be great 🙂

I do have to note though that, generally speaking, if another vendor decides to build a feature that integrates with The Events Calendar its proper operation and maintenance is really an issue for them – though of course if there happens to be a valid bug we’re always happy to look into it.

Hi Barry,

Thanks for getting back to me. I’m just going to check with Kriesi’s support team about how it’s calling the countdown function.

I do understand that if a feature is built into the theme to check with the vendor first. I did that and was advised it was a change in the EC 3.x coding that stopped the functionality I mentioned; hence why I’m here.

No problem.

Based on my understanding, this technique of hiding events from the theme’s own countdown feature was essentially – and perhaps oddly – dependent on the existence of a bug which we have now fixed … if that is in fact the case then I don’t think we’re going to be able to assist.

That said, another team member is indeed looking into this and I’ll be sure to post and update as things progress on that front 🙂
