Hide category from Featured Venue List

We are using the Featured Venue shortcode to show upcoming events for our venues. We have some events that are categorized as “Private Events” that we would rather not include in the Featured Events list. Is there a way to exclude a (or specify which) category from the Featured Venue shortcode (either via a function or option)?

Example on http://www.paintandsipstudios.com homepage, under the tab for Upcoming Events in Burlington, there is an event “Debra’s Private Party” that we’d rather not have show up in the Featured Venue list.

Unfortunately, there is no built-in functionality to remove a specific category from a specific list of events. It could be achieved with some custom coding, which we are limited in the amount of support we can give as stated in > https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/what-support-is-provided-for-license-holders/

As an example, you can take the snippet Brian shared in the following post > https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/hide-category-from-main-calendar-but-not-category-calendar/#dl_post-1012460 to remove specific categories.

Another approach to this, would be to use the event visibility set to Private for those events you want to hide from the event lists.
