ParticipantHey guys
Hear me out here — I know non-profit licenses don’t quality for full support, but I’m close to throwing my computer against the wall and (after scraping up the bits and taping them back together) deleting your app in favour of writing our events on sticky notes and posting photos of them on our blog. Which would really be self-defeating, as The Events Calendar has everything we need in an events application, but my frustration is rapidly approaching critical mass.
The issue is that whenever I try change views or use the search bar functionality in any way that doesn’t involve typing in a keyword, I get the screen you can see in the screenshot. I’ve tried disabling all of our plugins and nothing changed, and although it seemed as though changing the theme helped last time I tried, I can’t test that again any time soon (international website no safe time blah blah).
As I said, I know our license doesn’t qualify for full support, but please could you throw me a bone here — anything that can help me figure this issue out before I do my computer or job any lasting damage. All I ask for is 1. help in figuring out where to start looking for solutions to this issue myself or 2. some way to pay for one month’s worth of premium so that you can actually help me with this issue. I’ve checked all of the forums and resources I could find related to this issue, but keep coming up blank.
Thanks

MemberHi David,
Thanks for contacting us: I definitely empathize — it can be intensely frustrating when things don’t work as expected.
Based on the information you have provided, this does not look like a problem many of our users are reporting and I’m initially unable to replicate it myself. This does rather point to the possibility of a conflict either with another plugin, or with your theme, or some combination of those.
I’ve tried disabling all of our plugins and nothing changed, and although it seemed as though changing the theme helped last time I tried, I can’t test that again any time soon
I definitely understand your reluctance to fully troubleshoot by switching to a default theme, yet that is exactly what I would recommend here.
A great way to avoid impact on live/production sites is to create a testing or staging site. This can be as simple as a fresh WordPress installation in a subdirectory (ie, example.com/test) – which is fast and easy to setup with most CPanel-based hosting environments.
Ultimately, though, you are going to have to take some steps under your own steam to determine the seat of the conflict. We’d love to help more and if our resources were unbounded, we would — but we do have a large number of customers who have paid for and are waiting on support and it is only fair that we prioritize them.
I hope that is understandable and I do wish you luck resolving this issue.

ParticipantHi Barry
Thank you for taking the time to respond to me and putting a little time into my concern. I greatly appreciate it. Also, thanks for the suggestion of replicating the site in a different subdirectory — I didn’t think of that ☺
Being a fairly new coder, the main I problem I’m having is that I don’t even know where to begin looking myself. Based on your experience, does the error I mentioned sound like something PhP based, JS based or something else entirely?
Thanks again for your time and for a human response ☺

MemberHi David!
It’s really difficult to say simply because there are potentially a ton of factors that could be getting in the way.
On the PHP side of things, your theme (or a plugin or piece of custom code) could be modifying queries and misfiring in some way – which actually is not all that uncommon. On the frontend side, perhaps some code written in JavaScript is interfering with things and resulting in the wrong properties being passed back to the server (when you click ‘Find Events’, or otherwise trigger this issue).
Determining the seat of the conflict- in terms of identifying which if any plugin or theme seems to trigger the behaviour – is definitely a solid first step.

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
