MemberIs there a way to have recurring event show up only once in the sidebar … but show up each time in the calendar? This is why I bought the pro – I didn’t realize it would flood my sidebar … or is there a better way to keep my sidebar with only the non-recurring events?
I didn’t realize this would be a problem before I bought this for someone. Thank you!! ~ Diane Clancy

MemberHi Diane. Thanks for the note; this isn’t an option out of the box, but you may be able to hack it together. Have you checked out whether our tutorial on how to fully customize widgets gives you any ideas? It can be read right here: https://theeventscalendar.com/how-to-completely-customize-widgets/.
If not, let me know and I can get our dev Jonah to take a look and try to point you in the right direction (if the customization route is indeed doable).

MemberThank you so very much, Rob!! I looked at that and I am not sure I have the courage to tackle the code at that depth. I am concerned about messing it all up.
Is there anyway that I can just replace the code with something – and not have to go through all those steps? Sorry to be a whimp about this!! Thank you! ~ Diane Clancy

ParticipantHi Diane, I remember this coming up before and it’s totally a valid request but I remember another one of our devs saying the solution is fairly complex and would require a good amount of customization on our part. Unfortunately we just don’t have the resources to do a bunch of custom work for free so you’ll need to figure it out on your own, hire a developer or wait for us to implement some feature for it. One potential way to do it would be to customize one of our widgets or create your own and create two loops, one for recurring events where you limit the number displayed and another loop without recurring events at all…
Good luck!

MemberHi Jonah
I so appreciate your taking the time to respond to me! There is no way that I can figure it out with the level of my skills and the time it would take. I don’t know enough to do that with loops … I would love to – but I think it is above what I can do at this point.
The place I am helping does free workshops (and retreats and other things) for survivors of breast cancer and their families and they are a tiny business that I am helping some. I feel terrible about their buying the PRO version when they had been using the free one. I got asked to help them a little to follow up on things (that I didn’t set up of course) – it seemed that the PRO version was going to be great for recurring even though it tightened the budget.
I don’t know if there is any way that they can get their money back because they have just not been able to use it – since that feature isn’t there … I didn’t have a clue it would be an issue.
Thank you again!! ~ Diane

MemberHey Diane. While we hate to see you go, I can totally refund you the price of your purchase if this plugin doesn’t meet your needs. Please send an email to pro /a/ tri.be and we’ll take care of it for you. My apologies that we weren’t able to get you what you needed.

MemberHi Rob – Thank you so very much. I need to talk with my friend and see what they want to do. Of course, by your making this offer, you have made a great friend who will be totally loyal to you. My guess is she is going to want to get a refund since they are on a tight budget and can’t use it for what they want.
Sorry to take so long to answer – I have been very busy this past week and haven’t even looked at email. Thank you again!! ~ Diane Clancy
ps before you think it sounds good to not have looked at email, my inbox is a total disaster!
