handheld device advice for Gate Management

my client anticipates large attendances at most of his events; it has become concerning that the various, generic QR reader apps are going to be quite slow at the gates. He’s looked into a couple of the peripheral devices that connect to phones and would like me to ask if anyone has had any experience with “Mobeam” for Android phones and/or “StingRay” for IPhones…

as well, any other experience with the whole process of handling LARGE gate attendance that might be shared would be very graciously read.

I can totally see how generic QR Reader apps might be a bit slow for checking tickets at the gates. If you find any other QR-code scanning solution to use, it should work well as long as it scans typical QR codes.

In terms of the rest of the attendees management process, improving this process for when there are many attendees is something we’re investing time and resources into; we can definitely improve the handling of many attendees.

Out of curiosity, and only if you’re comfortable revealing this sort of thing, what is the rough range of attendees for the type of events you’re referring to? Are you dealing with several dozens to low hundreds, for example? Many hundreds? Thousands?

Thanks for sharing this, Douglas. We admittedly have lots of room for improvement when it comes to managing thousands of attendees. For the time being, the QR Codes can be scanned to check-in folks with any sort of QR-Scanning app, so I hope you find a scanning app or system that works well for your needs.

I’m sorry that I don’t have much more specific recommendations or such here—is there anything else I can try to help with? Let me know!
