Hello, I just installed the PRO version of the Event Calendar for a client. She needs the ability for views to import events into a Google calendar. I see a google calendar, plus the ical import options on individual events pages, but only iCal import months events on the full calendar page. Is there a way I can add the Google import to the month as well?

Also, what CSS do I edit to change the style of these calendar import links?
    Thank you.

I have a similar question. It appears to me that the “ical import month’s events” actually refers to the export of an .ics file which can then be imported into Google calendar. This then is a generic icalendar file, not specific to Apple’s “iCal.”

Is there a file where the button text resides and can be changed to something more descriptive — i.e., “Export to icalendar file” — or is the button simply an image that must be replaced with another image (and if so, where does that image live?)

    Hello pjkeeler,

lseeman’s response is correct, the Google Calendar export is only for single events. You need to use the iCal export to generate a file.

For both of you, if you check out our Themer’s Guide, you could probably make a template override to display what you want. Also if you check out the ical tutorials on https://theeventscalendar.com/the-events-calendar-for-wordpress-tutorials/ you should be able to easily piece together a solution.

Does this make sense? Let me know if this doesn’t work for you.

    Cheers!

Hi again and thanks for the info. It’s good to know that the .ics file can be imported into Google as well.
However, I need to change the line on the month view page to just say something different than “ical import month’s events” to something like “import month’s events” and eliminate any confusion for someone wanting to import into Google calendar. Also if possible, I’d like to add a brief instruction below.
I can’t seem to find the file that inserts these words and have even looked into events-calendar-pro/views and can’t find the corresponding file.
If you can just point me in the right direction, I’m sure I can make that minor change.
Thanks so much. We’ll be launching our site this week and Events Calendar has been a great addition!

Modern Tribe: Seems that what both pjkeeler are looking for is the location of either the file or the button that displays this text, as we’d both like to change the text. Theming or template overrides sound like a pretty extreme solution to what should be a simple thing?

My issue is that I find the text “ical import . . . ” to be wonky and misleading. Clicking doesn’t *import* anything — it generates a file and is really an *export* — I imagine pjkeeler may have a different reason for wanting to change the text, but that’s mine.
    Thanks!

    Hello pjkeeler and Larry,

Sorry I may have been mistaken. There are a number of techniques to change the text, and a template override is usually the best way.

For this I believe you want to change the filter. Here are some tutorials that will help you with this customization:

    https://theeventscalendar.com/changing-labels-for-icalgoogle-calendar-links-in-a-single-event/
    https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation/remove-export-links-from-single-event/

Does this make sense? Let me know if this doesn’t work for you.

I’m sorry, I don’t want to change anything on the single view remove the iCal import link. I also don’t want to remove the import link anywhere.
All I want to do is change the words “ICAL IMPORT MONTH’S EVENTS” to something else. I want to keep the link in place. It is found on the Month View page. Here’s my calendar, words in question are on the bottom right:
    http://gmsddev.org/calendar
Those words are obviously generated somewhere. If you can tell me which file and where to find them, I can change them easily – I just can’t find that location.
Sorry to be a pest, thanks for your help.

FYI – I just updated to the newest version of Event Calendar Pro. The line in question has been replaced! It now says “EXPORT MONTH’S EVENTS”, which is much clearer and exactly what I need. Iseeman – I think this will be good for you, too.
