ParticipantHi ,
I just bought the PRO version and I like it. However, for some reason my Theme (aka my child Theme) seems to be overriding the original Events Calendar layout.
I bought the PRO version because I was hoping that this would solve my problem. I really like the original layout and would prefer to use that instead of mine.
What’s the easiest way to accomplish this?
Thanks,

MemberGood evening Thomas and welcome to the Events Calendar Support forum!
Thank you for reaching out to us.
We are sorry to hear about your theme overriding the Events Calendar layout.
I would love to help you with this topic. There are a couple of things you might do to fix this:
- Under Events -> Settings -> Display , try playing with the radio button settings and change it to Tribe Events Style
- You can also try playing around with the setting directly below: Events Template
If none of these things work, it most likely means that you have a template customization in your WordPress theme.
These usually live in 2 places:- The /tribe-events/ folder of your theme. Try renaming that folder to something like /z_tribe-events/
- Your theme or child theme’s functions.php file. You will have to open it up to see if that is the case.
You might want to read our Themer’s guide to get a sense of how that works.
Let me know how that goes.
Best regards,

ParticipantHi Geoff,
thank you for reply. I’ve just realised that you have answered so quickly. The notification must have gone into my spam folder – not sure…
Anyway, in the meantime the Theme developers got back to me. Unfortunately, the theme my client bought, Welfare NGO from CMS Masters has the Events Calendar PRO plugin integrated. I wasn’t aware of that.
It ignores basically all the changes I do in the Customizer. I found a TEC Pro folder in the parent theme. I’m just guessing but I could disable or delete it, it could solve my problem. What do you think. Please let me know if you require more information.Best Regards

MemberHey Thomas,
Thank you for writing back.
Before you do anything, I would highly recommend backing up your theme and Database.
But you are right, removing the Events Calendar Pro folder will absolutely help. But there is a strong chance that there is some kind of call to that folder in that theme’s functions.php or one of the PHP template files. You will probably need to remove that too.
If you are not successful, could you please send me a copy of your WordPress theme in a .zip file link (via Dropbox or Google Drive) so that I can run some tests on my end ?
Please ensure you are using the latest files as found on your actual website.
This way I will get access to any updates you might have made.Best regards,
Geoff B.

MemberGood afternoon Thomas,
Thank you for your efforts and for the files.
I took a look at them and it turns out there are quite a few other places where you will need to comment things out to get even closer to our look.
The best way to do this is by searching for the string “event” in the theme’s folder.Among other things:
- There are quite a few event related css files which you should rename
- There is another function to comment out in cmsms-theme-settings-general.php
- There are a couple of entries to remove in the /welfare/framework/function/ folder
Let me know how that goes.
Best regards,

ParticipantHi Geoff,
thank you once again for your quick reply and effort you put in.
I’ve also realised, as you already mentioned, there are many entries and css files I have to touch. Looks like a big job….
I’m just wondering, and this is where I need your expertise and advice, those files and calls I need to disable or change are sitting in the parent theme. Do I have to copy everything into the child theme first? And If I comment a function out will it not be overwritten by the parent theme then? I know how it works with CSS, haeder.php, footer.php etc. but this is a bit more than I usually do. Will be good practise though.Best regards

MemberGood evening Thomas,
I have to agree with you, that’s a lot of things to undo from your theme.
It would have been awesome if the theme author provided a quick on-off switch for these customizations. If you want your changes to survive any theme update, a child theme is always a better idea.
But I am not sure how well this specific theme handles child themes. It is certainly worth a shot. The correct approach would be to dequeue what the parent theme is doing for the Events Calendar in your child theme’s functions.php or to filter out some functions.
The fastest way to this might be to contact the theme author as he’ll know exactly how to go about this.Best of luck,
Geoff B.
