Hi. I’m trying to get my calendar (TEC Pro & Community Events) setup using my Genesis (version 2.0.1) child theme, Dynamik Website Builder but have encountered a major issue. The Genesis layout (content-sidebar) seems to be getting ignored by TEC, because no sidebar is being display on any calendar page. How can I get my calendar setup to display my default layout?
    Thanks for your help,
    Sean

NOTE: The sidebar doesn’t appear when using “Tribe Event Styles” or “Full Styles.” I am currently using the “Default Events Template” in TEC’s display settings. I tried using the “Default Page Template” but while the sidebar is displayed, the content section displays only text (not formatted, no links). Here’s a copy of what my “List” calendar view displays using that template:

    Howdy irishrunner16,

Some of the themes like Genesis do not use standard WP page templates in their designs. While this allows them greater flexibility than WP is designed for, it means they readily conflict with plugins at times. You have encountered one such conflict.

Fortunately the good folks at Genesis recognize this and have provided a work around for a child theme like yours. This guide will show you how to add a page template. Of course, for any support relating to adding a child theme you will have to look to Genesis.

Once you have succesfully added a child theme and are happy with it’s layout, come back to the Tribe Settings > Display page. Alongside “Default Events Template”& “Default Page Template” you will now see your custom page template. Select it, hit apply, and presto!

Please let me know if that answers your question. Thanks!

    Hi Brook,

Thanks for the info. I can try adding a custom page template to see if the fix is as simple as that. Can you please let me know if I need to include any code for The Events Calendar in my template? Or will that automatically be added when I set my custom template in TEC > Settings > Display > Events Template?

    Thanks,
    Sean

You should not need to include any extra code, just a regular WordPress template.

You are very welcome Sean! Did that fix it for you?

Thanks Brook! I created a blank page template in my child theme and that got the default layout displaying correctly. However, my theme was displaying the calendar as only an excerpt, so I tried applying the fix from https://theeventscalendar.com/garbled-events-page-fix/. That seems to have worked.

With that said I now need to remove a few sections that are showing up on my calendar pages by using my page template. I was able to locate the snippet for removing the breadcrumbs. Now I just need to find the snippets to hide the post meta and pagination from my custom template, as I do not want them to appear beneath the calendar.

    Thanks again for your help!

Thanks for the update Sean. I am glad you were able to get the initial problem fixed. Based on your last paragraph it sounds like you are nearly finished, perhaps even finished as of the time of this post. That’s great!

Since the initial issue is resolved I am going to close this thread. If you do need help with something else, or end up needing help with those breadcrumbs, please open a new topic.

You are very welcome! All the best.

    – Brook
