ParticipantHi,
We originally had trouble with the Events Calendar not working properly on our Canvas theme. As soon as we were pointed to making some changes in the functions.php page per this link – https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/fixing-a-garbled-single-events-page/ the Events Calendar worked but 2 other problems popped up.1) I cannot select which widgets to appear / hide in the footer of the page. All of the widgets appear. I tried to fool the Events Calendar by making a new page, calling it ‘schedule’…and before assigning the Events Calendar to ‘schedule’, selected which widgets were to appear, getting it how we wanted it. You can see that now — http://barrybradford.com/schedule/
But when I went to the settings tab in Events Calendar and assigned it to ‘schedule’, all my widget settings were disregarded.
2) When I’m on http://barrybradford.com/speaking-schedule/ and looking at the page, I see the calendar on the page as I should, but note that the item that’s highlighted in my primary menu and the menu in the footer highlights ‘blog’ as though the visitor is on the blog page and not the speaking-schedule page, which is also in the menu.
Do you know why this is happening and what to do about it?-

Participantbarrybradford,
Thanks for getting in touch! Hopefully I can help you with these issues, but let’s tackle them one at a time.1) I cannot select which widgets to appear / hide in the footer of the page.
Can you try temporarily reverting to the default 2013 theme to see if this issue persists? I suspect that this is an issue with your theme, but just want to narrow it down a bit before troubleshooting further.
Do you know why this is happening and what to do about it?This is something specific to your theme’s setup, since your theme thinks the Events Calendar is a Blog Post archive. Try adding your ‘Blog’ menu item as a Custom URL and see if that fixes the issue.
Thanks! 🙂

ParticipantHi,
I activated 2013 theme and checked out the speaking-schedule page. There are fewer footer widgets, but they’re not in the right order as the schedule page is. I’d offer up a screenshot but don’t see a way to do that here.In the footer for 2013, were these widgets:
Footer 1 (left side): Categories
Footer 2 (next column to the right of 1): Recent Posts
Footer 3: Recent Comments and Subscribe box
Footer 4: “What People are Saying” – woo Tabs.In the Canvas theme I am only using 3 footer areas, not 4.
Does that help with problem #1?

ParticipantAs for #2) the workaround using a link to the blog page in the primary menu and footer menu. But when we’re on the speaking-schedule page (with the events calendar), the link in the menu does not get highlighted to indicate people are on that page. Is there a way to change some setting within the Event Calendar itself so that it’s seen as a page and not a blog entry?

Participantoops — all that to say the workaround works. almost perfectly. except seeing the events page highlighted in the menu.

Participantbarrybradford,
Thanks for confirming that the workaround worked for you! Since it seems like you’re all set (with the exception of the highlighted menu item, which is an issue specific to your theme), I’m going to go ahead and close out this thread.Feel free to start a new thread if you have further issues. Thanks! 🙂
