We have a client that is looking to support physical retailers with an events calendar they can post to, and wants site visitors to start with a regional list of events for their location.

However, they still need to promote “global” events, such as product launches, inline with any local events. Is there any clean way to force an event category or venue to be “sticky” and always show, regardless of search filters?

Hey gkv. Thanks for the note here, and apologies we took until now to get you a reply. At this point we don’t have any functionality along those lines, but I’m interested in hearing more to see if we can help you out. is your goal to have the content of this category/venue to appear mixed among the results that come from whatever search these users trigger? IE, you have a mix of event data that both matches the search criteria AND shows everything from your sticky category?

Let me know if I’m misunderstood here and I’ll do my best to get you sorted. Thanks for your patience in the interim.

You’ve got the basic idea. I was thinking of a couple different approaches I could take with this if I had to modify stuff to do it myself.

For any event where there is no physical venue, and thus no zip code – could I modify the location search to include nearby events AND all events with a blank zip code? That would be the first thing I’d try because it seems the easiest in theory.

Falling short of that, I would try to perform a second category search in addition to the user’s location search. I could try to mix the results into one list, or I could return them as 2 separate lists, calling one “local events” and one “national events”.

Ended up simply doing an array_push to place the Venue ID for the “global” location onto the normal results. Works for what I need it to.

Thanks for confirming you got this sorted yourself, gkv, and apologies on my end for the failure to get back to you in a timely fashion (leading you to go it alone). If you still have enough faith in us when it comes time for renewal, hit me up (pro /a/ tri.be) referencing this thread….since I want to give you a discount for your troubles.

Awesome to hear your solution worked, though. I’m marking it as the answer and closing the thread. Thanks again for your patience + support; please do let us know if we can do anything else in the future.
