    Hey Joana,

    Thanks for the patience!

I played around with the filters in the site and thought of something that could be leading to the error. The venue filter is set to autocomplete, Can you change that to dropdown in WP-Admin > Events > Settings > Filters and re-test?

Regarding the issue in month view there seems to be a general performance issue leading to a database error right now. Can you contact your hosting provider for more information on this? I’m not sure that issue is specific to our plugin…

    Best,
    Nico

    Hi Nico,

Thanks very much for having a look at our site. You perfectly timed it to look while we were having db issues.

I’ve partly given up on the custom filters for now as the default ones seem to work okay and will run with them for phase 1 of our launch. I did however switch the venue from autocomplete to drop down.

We doubled the amount of server resources and allocated more RAM to mysql to help speed things up.

The one thing that we still just can’t wrap our head around is why month view loads a blank page. Works on our local host with the Avada theme installed 🙁 sad times. Are you able to have another look at Month view now that our db seems to be working?

    Cheers

Hey sorry to hear you are giving up with custom filters but I can understand that the time constrains of a project generate priorities!

I’ve took a look and in fact getting a 500 server error, I’ve tried accessing month view via plain permalink (http://calendar.childmags.com.au/?post_type=tribe_events&eventDisplay=month) but I’m getting the same result. Do you have access to the PHP error log in the server? Can you please ask your hosting provider for that or just tell them you want to display PHP errors on the front-end while the site is in dev. This will hopefully give us some clues about what’s causing this.

    Thanks,
    Nico

    Hi Nico,

Just to give you an update. We have gotten month view working (albeit only accessing it via a permalink). What was causing this issue was lack of memory allocated to wordpress…

What is strange though, is that we had to jack up the wordpress memory limit to 1Gb for it to work properly (at 512Mb we stopped receiving errors).

That seems MASSIVE. We do have a very large calendar of events, however we’d like to know why it needs such a huge amount of RAM?

As for the views drop down menu not linking correctly, we’ve noticed that the links have a ‘#’ at the end of them which we know is a dead link, just not sure whats causing it to create this link.

We’ve contacted Avada also to find out if its something on their end.

    Cheers

    Thanks Joanna!

It does sounds strange! 1 GB is a lot!!! Please read some considerations about performance here.

We do have a very large calendar of events, however we’d like to know why it needs such a huge amount of RAM?

Can you please note how many events are there in the calendar? Do you see the same in the staging / development / local environment?

You might reach to the hosting company to see if they can identify slow queries. Also, deactivating plugins and theme one by one and rechecking the site might be a good way to identify the bottleneck. Maybe it’s a conflict between two plugins or a more complex combination.

Please keep me posted on this,
    Best,
    Nico

    Hi Nico,

    Hope you’re well.

Just giving you an update on things. All the problems we are currently running into all seem to be triggered by the filter bar plugin we purchased off you guys.

    1. The Views drop down – as discussed previously, when its on, the links die. When we turn it back off, the links work.

    2. Searching for events seems to cause issues with the filter bar turned on – e.g going to the Adelaide landing page: http://calendar.childmags.com.au/events/category/adelaide/ with filter bar turned on – you can clearly see there are events for the Zoo. When a query is made in search bar for “Zoo” it returns no results. With the filter bar turned off, it returns the results you’d expect.

To answer you last questions – we are currently sitting on 10,600 events (most of these are due to the reoccurring events which we have set for 3 months ahead otherwise it would completely overload the db).

Unfortunately we didn’t have all these events uploaded on our staging server at the time – they’ve all be uploaded live.

    Regards,
    Jo

    Hi Jo,

Thanks for following up and so sorry to see you are still struggling to make things right 🙁

I see that filterbar is now deactivated on your site. I’m going to insist on something that was suggested earlier, but I that you didn’t confirm this: Can you make sure there’s no filter set to autocomplete, if there is any please change it to dropdown in WP-Admin > Events > Settings > Filters and re-test?

Also, I’m mostly sure the same error is affecting the search and the view changes. Basically a JavaScript conflict.

Hope I can find the solution for this soon,

    Best,
    Nico

    Hi Nico,

I had previously tried the autocomplete feature as I stated back in my reply on the 23rd of May and I don’t remember it working. However trying it this morning has given results!

The problem with this fix, is that we need desperately need the autocomplete feature as our calendar is massive and having to scroll through 50+ venues comes with usability issues.

Will this Javascript conflict going to be resolved in a future update?

Glad to hear Jo! This bug has been recently logged and unfortunately is affecting various customer’s sites, so the fix for this is a high priority for our next maintenance/bugfixes release. We are hoping to release version 4.2 next week, this is a major/feature release. Intermediately after this is released we will be scheduling maintenance release 4.2.1 and hopefully having it out in two more weeks.

I’ve linked this thread with our internal bug report, so you’ll receive a heads-up when the fix is released. Do you think you can wait for the launch of 4.2.1?

Please let me know about it,
    Best,
    Nico

    Hi Nico,

    Hope you’re well!

A couple of other questions: our week view doesn’t seem to be populating any events into it (its currently disabled because of this) Would you happen to know why?

Also Month view, when viewed on mobile, doesn’t populate events underneath it when you click on a day. The only link that works on the mobile month view is clicking the actual date (number) which opens up day view for the particular date.

Your assistance, as always, is much appreciated.

    Kind regards,
    Jo

    Hey Jo,

Thanks for following-up, but can you please open up a new thread for these issues? They don’t sound related with what we worked on (FilterBar issue). Having one issue per thread helps user find and benefit from. You can totally link back to this thread so the person helping you out haves some context on this if needed.

    Thanks so much,
    Have a great week,
    Nico

    Hi Nico,

I’ve started up a number of other threads regarding issues we’ve run into now that we’ve been intensively testing.

One of the biggest requests is custom filters by Age. So we are needing to get this working…

Currently with the Age custom filter enabled on the front end, clicking an age doesn’t trigger a search of events. It just hangs

Sorry to resurrect this issue, however its now become a necessity.

None of our filters have the autocomplete option selected so this isn’t the issue for this particular problem.

    Cheers,
    Jo

Okay, so doing some more testing. It seems to trigger a search on map view. When i switch to list view it does execute any search when selecting a custom filter.

I want to make List View our default view as users find the map view superfluous when the events contain a map of the event.

    Hey Jo,

Sorry to hear the issues are back 🙁

Okay, so doing some more testing. It seems to trigger a search on map view. When i switch to list view it does execute any search when selecting a custom filter.

I want to make List View our default view as users find the map view superfluous when the events contain a map of the event.

I could confirm this is not working as expected in list view, but it does on map view. In fact it does seems to freeze when I try to use any filter and doesn’t make the request. Have you re-tested for conflicts on this one (switching theme and de-activating plugins)? Also, if you deactivate the Age filter, do the rest work as expected? Can you try to de-activate and test each one to see if ti fails for a specific filter?

    Best,
    Nico
