GuestHello. I am considering this plugin for a national cycling magazine website. I am looking for a balance between price, functionality and simplicity. We want to allow our readers to submit events hosted by their local cycling clubs for promotion on a national scale. I know Events Calendar can do that, which is excellent.
But we also want to be able to sell featured event listings to companies / advertisers. For example, there’s a national beer company that hosts a massive, quirky bicycle event in a handful of U.S. cities every year. We’d like to reach out to this company to offer a promoted spot on our events calendar so that when people check out our calendar, they are guaranteed to see the event post from this beer company.
We will handle the payment through our own system; that doesn’t concern me. Does The Events Calendar offer a way to promote or feature events on the calendar, list and/or map views? There are a few plugins that do this, but I really like your balance of usability, price, functionality and appearance. Thank you.

MemberHi there! Thanks so much for getting in touch–we’re thrilled to hear that you’re considering our plugins for your site!
Regarding your question, there are a few ways to achieve a “featured event” type of display on your calendar pages. The simplest of these would likely be the Event List Widget that comes bundled with Events Calendar PRO. Using this, you could simply assign your featured event a special “Featured” category, drop your widget into a widgetized theme area, set it to display 1 event at a time, and select that “Featured” category for display in the widget’s settings. The PRO version of The Events Calendar also supports widget output via shortcode, with all of the same settings included as display options, if you’d prefer that method of displaying your featured event!
If you’d prefer a more detailed, hands-on approach to display your featured events just how you like them, we also offer a Themer’s Guide with plenty of information on our plugin templates and how to customize them to fit your needs! All events made with The Events Calendar are stored in the WordPress database as custom post types, so if you were to create an event with a “Featured” category assigned (as suggested above), making a custom “featured event” pane would be as straightforward as pulling posts of the post type tribe_events from that “Featured” taxonomy (tribe_events_cat).
Does that help to answer your question? Let me know if you should have any others or if I can provide clarification in any way! 🙂 Thanks again!
