After updating my plugins, the entire site (front and back) returns this error:

“Can’t use function return value in write context in [..] events-calendar-pro/src/functions/template-tags/venue.php on line 97”

I’m also using plugins Event Tickets and Event Tickets Plus.

I’m able to deactivate EC PRO by renaming the folder in the plugins directory from “events-calendar-pro” to something else (I usually just put an “x” after the name).

I tried changing the return line on line 97 to “return false;” but that doesn’t stop the error.

    This is critical! Please help.

The same happened on my site. I fixed it by FTP into my site and deleting the events calendar pro folder (as listed in your error) and then uploading the old version to my site (downloaded 4.3)

Just don’t upload the plugin until they get it fixed.

I can’t offer any help because I am having the same problem. And I can’t even get back on WordPress to remove the plugin because now I get the Fatal Error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home/trinitynyc/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar-pro/src/functions/template-tags/venue.php on line 97

How can I get my website back up please? http://www.trinityny.org/
    Help!!

If you have access to your files (thru ftp, or cpanel?) then just find the folder called “events-calendar-pro” in the “plugins” folder. Rename it to something like “events-calendar-pro_old”.

Then your site should work again, but the EC Pro will be deactivated.

UPDATE: I said something incorrect in my original post. If you have a file editor, you can change line 97 to read: “return false;” (and delete or comment out everything else on that line) then the plugin works.

It breaks that one function, but it’s sort of an obscure function anyway. They should fix this, but I can live without “tribe_venue_has_next_events” functionality for now.

Looks they got a fix on this already. Good job tri.be. Get version 3.4.1.1 and it is resolved.

Good afternoon John and welcome back!

Thank you for reaching out to us and kudos for finding the fix before we could get back to you.

We are sorry about the fatal error you have experienced while updating our plugins.

I want to apologize for any inconvenience that this might have caused on your site.

As you know, since yesterday, we have released some patches for the Events Calendar and Event Tickets plugins.

As you also found out, we just released a patch to address the Events Calendar Pro issue specifically.

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.

Thanks for your help John! We got the site back up yesterday by going through GoDaddy’s interface to rename the folder in the plugins directory. Whew!

    Hey Jonathan,

I am glad you managed to get things working again.
You are absolutely right, renaming your folder’s plugin temporarily has the added perk of deactivating any plugin that might be causing troulbe.

The great news is that all of our plugins are now stable, provided you install the very latest version.

    Have a great day!

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
