Extending Event sCalendar PRO to manage Event resources / employees

I’m presuming PRO mainly because it has custom fields.

In short the client is looking for an events management solution. But not to sell ticket. They need an internal tool for scheduling events AND associated resources. The primary need would be to assign employees to roles for a given events. For example, an event could be built with a Manager, an Assist. Mgr, and three staff. and then an employee would be assigned to each of those. But another event might have a manger and just two staff. Further out, there might be field for Food, and they would want to assign an employee and/or vendor to that role.

In short it’s not just a matter of list of resources (e.g., employees) but the ability to fill certain buckets with employees and those employees being able to see where and when they were assigned.

Other details

1) This would be a BuddyPress install. They want / need the added user profile capabilities, as well as other cool BP “stuff”.

2) All the usual front end calendar stuff would still be needed. Location, map, address of venue(s), etc.

Basically they want to “build” and manage events, not just calendar-ize them. I realize this is somehow outside of your product’s usual focus. But it feels as if much of the data structures there. The question is, how customizable would EC PRO be in trying to meet these semi-unusual needs?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your post. Definitely sounds like a cool creative use of our plugin! If the functionality you describe is the extent of your needs, I do think the Events Calendar PRO could work for you. Do note though that the Advanced Custom Fields are pretty simple and WYSIWYG- you couldn’t, for example, have the employee names in the ACF link to their BuddyPress profile or something like that. At least, not without a lot of customization work 🙂
