We have a separate site set up for each of dev, test, and live versions of our site. I have someone updating just event tickets and their corresponding WooCommerce products on Dev, which we’ll then want to put on Test and then Live. Is there an export/import way to do this so that we don’t have to copy/paste event info between the environments? I know we could just do a whole database copy on the back-end but we have other content staging things going on in parallel and that would mess those up.

    Hi, Rob.

It sounds like you’re wanting the actual Event + Organizer + Venue posts, not the Event Settings, right?

If so, you can use WordPress’ own import/export functionality at wp-admin > Tools > Import or Export.

Please let me know how this goes for you.

Would that also include the WooCommerce products that were created with the event?

You should have all the same plugins active on Site B as you do on Site A, otherwise the import process may not import the registered post types.

For example, if Site A has The Events Calendar and WooCommerce active and you generate a WordPress export file, it’ll export Events, Organizers, Venues, and Products custom post type posts.

Then, if Site B has The Events Calendar (but not WooCommerce) active, and you import Site A’s export file, Site B will likely import Events, Organizers, and Venues, but not Products.

Obviously, then, you should have WooCommerce active on Site B if it’s active on Site A.

There are also other data migration tools available. For example, some people use the Duplicator plugin (third-party, not guaranteed or supported by us) to just copy the entirety of Site A to become Site B. Then, once Site B is a clone of Site A, make the staging/development edits you need to make as if it were Site A.

Alternatives include Backup Buddy, ManageWP’s backup/clone service, and quite a few others.

I hope this clarifies things for you. Please let me know how this goes for you.
