Dan
ParticipantHi Fellow Tribe Members!
I’m Events Calendar Pro to list events that have complex reoccurring weekly schedule that vary by day of the week or have multiple occurrences on the same day (all set through custom rules)
Now that we are in the holiday season sometimes one performances on a day will be canceled and another other will replace it. If the whole day is canceled I can exclude, but I can’t seem to figure out how to exclude part of a day for a holiday.
The only option I see is manually editing the one event in the series, but that will break the reoccurrence. I know later i’ll want want to go back and change the image and description and from what I understand that will prevent me from doing that.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help!

ParticipantHey Dan,
Thanks for reaching out. What you described is unfortunately the current set of limitations with the plugin at this time:
If the whole day is canceled I can exclude, but I can’t seem to figure out how to exclude part of a day for a holiday
I’m sorry about this limitation Dan!

ParticipantHi George,
Thanks for the response!
What would your recommended workaround be?
Thanks!

ParticipantThe only workaround would be some form of extensive code re-writing to pull this off 🙁 I’m sorry to keep bearing bad news Dan!

ParticipantIt’s ok! But i’m not sure that’s the case though.
There are certainly other ways to pull it off without editing , I’m just trying to figure out which is the most efficient.
Here are some ideas I’ve come up with:
* Create the custom rules that end right before the day of the change. Enter the change, and the reenter the reoccurrence rules after the change (that sounds like it has potential for a list of rules that are long, messy and hard to follow)
* Exclude the performances that are canceled due to the holidays and then reenter them as new events. Keep a running list of ones that are entered outside the reoccurrence and update them manually if I have to change anything. (the problem with this is they will appear as duplicate events in the upcoming events list, this may just be a known issue i’ll have to live with.)
Is there any other strategy you can think of with your experience with TEC?
Thanks!

ParticipantHey Dan,
You can indeed pursue the alternative methods you listed, however you described your goal as this in an earlier post:
If the whole day is canceled I can exclude, but I can’t seem to figure out how to exclude part of a day for a holiday.
The “excluding a part of a day” thing is what I mean about not being currently possible with something included in the plugin by default. 🙁
Does this help? Do you think I am missing something here? If so, I’m really sorry about that!
The only things I have more thoughts on here are in response to another thing you wrote, which was this:
The only option I see is manually editing the one event in the series, but that will break the reoccurrence. I know later i’ll want want to go back and change the image and description and from what I understand that will prevent me from doing that.
I was not clear about this before, but while this is indeed the only out-of-the-box solution here, you will be able to edit the image and description of this event or of any event in the series. Breaking an event from a series does not affect the ability to edit it at all, nor does it affect the ability to edit other events that are still in the series.
I hope that helps! Thank you for your patience here.
