Events Posts being created in Posts when we don't want them

I’ve been dealing with an odd issue for several months now. It’s really hard to describe.
Events that are set for the future are duplicating themselves a posts in the main blog feed when we don’t want them there. At first we thought one of our users was entering the events in Posts instead of Events, but it turns out that no one was manually creating the post at all. This only seems to happen with recurring events from a particular category, but I just can’t see what the problem is. We have not enabled events to be in the main blog feed and the plugin is up-to-date.
This problem first started this summer (we’ve been using the plugin for several years).
I’ve tried to test for conflicts, but this issue happens so randomly, deactivating other plugins or using the default theme doesn’t seem to make any difference in testing.
I had to delete the posts from the main site, but I’ve kept the most recent appearance on our staging site.

That certainly seems strange – and, honestly, I don’t recall anything similar being reported before now.

I appreciate this, yet the very rarity of similar reports suggests there very well may be a conflict at work here (unless someone actually is manually creating them).

You noted this only happens with recurring events from a particular category: can you confirm which category that is? Have there been zero instances of this occurring with other categories, or is the category link more of a suspicion at this point?
