ParticipantI have a problem with a calendar that I set up for a client. My client has been adding events. None of the events they add are showing up. When they log in it to the dashboard it show 870 events 857 published, 13 drafts in the dashboard. When I log in it only shows 694 events, 687 published, and 9 drafts.
When my client looks at the calendar logged in the events are there. When she looks at the calendar not logged in the new events don’t show up ( which is what I see logged in.
This is an important site and I need to sort this out ASAP. Yesterday before I knew this was happening I added the community addon and it didn’t add the test entries to the calendar.
Is there some sort of publish setting that is messed up. Really could use some help on this.

ParticipantA big concern is the close to 200 events that have been manually added by the client. I don’t see anyway to export the events from her side and I’ afraid that if I do anything I’ll loose all of these entries.

MemberHey there, Paul!
Thanks for getting in touch and sorry your running into a problem, but hopefully I can help you out here and we can tackle it together.
I’m not aware of any issues with publishing settings, but dealing with that many events makes me wonder if there’s an issue with the memory limit provided by your host. Some web hosts will allow you to increase the memory limit on your current server. If that’s the case for you, here are some helpful links regarding how to do this:
- Here’s is how to upgrade WordPress’ memory limit, right from the WP Codex.
- Here is the PHP reference for modifying your php.ini memory limit. Sometimes this is necessary as well. Not all hosting plans allow you to edit the php.ini file, so you would need to consult with your provider on how to do it and if you need to switch plans. You might even ask them what the maximum allowed memory is for the current plan, and make sure you are already there.
You also noted that you haven’t tried deactivating other plugins and switching to a default theme to test for conflicts. Would you be able to try that and follow our steps for Testing for Conflicts if the above doesn’t work?
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks for getting back to me Geoff. It turns out the my client forgot to give the person who was updating the calendar the new ip address and she was entering the info into the early development server. Ugh. My reading on the subject suggests that there isn’t any way I can export this data and update the live site? Is that correct?

MemberHave you tried using the WordPress export option under Tools > Export? You should be able to export the Events post type as XML and upload to the live site.
Let me know if you’re able to do that.
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks Jeff,
Do I need to delete the existing records before importing the calendar?
What happens to categories? I’ve downloaded the individual xml files for organizers, venues, and events. Should I import them in that order?
Thanks for your help.

MemberWordPress will automatically skip any duplicated entries, so you will want to delete them first. I definitely recommend backing up your database before removing anything, just as best practice. There’s more on that here in the WordPress Codex: http://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Database
The event categories should also be in your XML file. Double check that they are there before moving forward.
You should be able to import the files in any order, but it might not hurt to do events first since they are the primary post type that everything else is associated with.
Does that make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know, thanks! 🙂
