ParticipantI just installed and configured The Events Calendar (Pro and Community Events included). I’ve checked the box indicating I want the events to show in the main loop. Our home page, which is our main blog page, uses a “Magazine” style template that’s part of WooThemes’ Canvas Theme. I can’t see the Events showing on this page, in this feed. However, I switched to 2012 theme and they don’t show there, either. Well, they will show if I set front page to be “Your latest posts” in my reading settings.
How do I make sure the template we’re using for our blog page includes the events custom post types?

MemberHave you enabled the include events in main blog loop setting?

ParticipantThanks for the quick response, Barry. Please note the second sentence in my initial post here. 😉

MemberI did indeed miss that – apologies!
However, I’m wondering if this Magazine Template you are referring to builds up its posts using a mechanism other than simply leveraging the main blog loop. Is that a possibility?
Can you achieve something similar to Twenty Twelve with show-your-latest-posts on the front page but with Canvas and does the problem still manifest under those conditions?

ParticipantYes. Sorry. I failed to mention that, or wasn’t entirely clear in my communication. After switching to 2012 and then changing the reading settings to “Show latest posts” and then seeing the events in the main loop in 2012, I switched back to Canvas keeping the same settings as I just had with 2012 and the events were in fact showing in the main loop.

ParticipantHonestly, I care less about them showing on the page, which is important, but I must have them in the main RSS feed. Which seems not to be affected by the use of the Magazine template. Maybe?

MemberOk – in that case it sounds like everything is functioning as expected and an educated guess would be that the theme’s magazine view is based upon a custom query, which isn’t something we can assist with I’m afraid.
With regards to integration with the RSS feed, have you checked out this tutorial?

ParticipantThat’s not exactly what I want to hear, as a customer paying for a license for support. I understand you guys have it built to function in a known scenario, but it’s pretty naive to think that people who purchase won’t want to use it in a slightly different scenario and that they won’t be upset when it doesn’t work as hoped and support essentially says I can’t assist you with that. Makes one wonder what a support license is for. Rather than provide that type answer, why don’t you advertise and market the product with a big disclaimer stating that it only works in certain scenarios and configurations and anything beyond that is non-supported. Or provide an initial configuration service, at an additional one-time cost to the customer, at which time some sort of customization help could be provided. Simply stating “it isn’t something we can assist with” but providing no other options, recommendations, etc. leaves customers wanting more. Please hear that and take it as constructive criticism as it relates to my experience so far.
With regard to the code snippet you linked to, I added it to my functions.php but I still do not see the events in the main feed.

MemberI can understand your frustration: you have a set of end-goals and of course you want support from us where those goals relate to or are impacted by The Events Calendar/Events Calendar PRO. At the same time, we need to be realistic about how much time we can spend helping customers through what amount to custom development issues and need to draw the line somewhere.
Rather than provide that type answer, why don’t you advertise and market the product with a big disclaimer stating that it only works in certain scenarios and configurations and anything beyond that is non-supported.
Because we often do help people to achieve new things and behaviours that don’t exist out-of-the-box – unfortunately that isn’t a practical proposition for every single request, however.
I’m also not completely clear if you are referring to integration with your theme’s magazine mode or integration with the RSS feed with this feedback. If it is the latter then, yes, we understand that things like this are popular requests which is why we invested in developing the tutorial I linked to. Why it isn’t working in your case I’m not sure, but I do know that other users have successfully utilized it – very recently, too. For further support on this specific issue, though, please create a separate thread.
If it is integration with your theme’s magazine mode then I’m afraid that is beyond what we can help with. You’re asking us to have knowledge of a different product and help customize it – that’s not our responsibility and I don’t think it’s the theme vendor’s responsibility, either. It’s the responsibility of the person integrating the two products.
We certainly do appreciate and take note of feedback like this – knowing what you need and expect helps us to improve our offerings going forward.
At the same time, it’s important to be clear early on that our support organization simply isn’t configured to offer “an initial configuration service, at an additional one-time cost to the customer” and, right now, if you need a higher degree of support than we can offer – particularly where it relates to custom development work such as pulling events into the custom query of another product – it would be best to work with a suitable freelancer or independent developer and we will happily provide you with a list of people we recommend.

MemberIt’s been a while so I’ll go ahead and close this thread. Of course if you need further help for this or any other issue please do feel free to create a new thread or threads as needed. Thanks!
