    Pulled plugins and reverted to 2012 and it does work properly in 2012…
    the events archive is working as intended and all events are viewable they just will not show up in a list with my blog posts.

    I installed the debug plugin

    Hi – sorry to hear you’re experiencing difficulties.

    Just to clarify first of all – we don’t guarantee being able to respond to threads any sooner than within 24hrs of them being posted, not counting weekends (and typically the forums are staffed only during continental US working hours). “Bumping” threads unfortunately makes your thread appear more recent than it really is, so though that’s admittedly a quirk on our end it’s nonetheless something that is best avoided.

    I’m really surprised to hear that you hit this with no other plugins active and only a default, unmodified theme, though – that’s not something I can replicate locally.

    Is there any way I could take a peek at this under those conditions? I did try looking at the URL/IP address you provided, but it did not resolve to an actual WordPress website.

    Thanks!

    Hmm, it’s quite hard to pin this down as I’m seeing a number of strange effects.

    I can’t for instance navigate to your main events page, it’s only possible for me to view (a selection of) events by hovering over the events item in your main nav menu. Similarly, if I actually click on an event then I see the “Hello World” blog post but nothing that looks like a single events post.

    Pulled plugins and reverted to 2012 and it does work properly in 2012…

    Thanks for taking the time to try. So the problem is isolated to your theme, basically? Have you made any customizations to your theme (relating to that effect when I hover over “Events” in the nav menu for instance, I do see it has a custom tribe-events directory within it, just wondering if any other changes you made might be impacting)?

    I tried changing the template of my actual blog page but it didn’t have any effect – the events still are not being pulled in.

    Can you tell me more about this – how is your blog page implemented? Normally it isn’t actually a “page” where you can modify the template or title but rather a default view generated by WordPress itself.

    Is it possible your theme has implemented it’s own “main blog loop”? We do sometimes see this and the problem in those cases is that it is not truly the main blog loop and so it doesn’t mesh with our own settings in that regard.

    Definitely do feel free to use private replies if you need to share private information like login credentials – but it’s appreciated if you could minimize using them when they aren’t needed since they make it hard for other users who might be facing similar problems to research threads like this one in the future. Thanks!

    I am using a static front page and for my blog page i just created a new page for my blog page and applied the default blog template to the page. (vellum Theme)

    OK. I can’t promise anything as really it’s sounding like the theme is doing something non-standard here, but if you want to make the theme available for us to download (whether by uploading it to Dropbox or some similar service – or just to your blog) we’d be happy to spend a couple of minutes checking it out in case anything obvious jumps out at us 🙂

    Thanks – and please do feel free to remove the .zip. This is essentially as I suspected earlier in the course of the thread:

    Is it possible your theme has implemented it’s own “main blog loop”? We do sometimes see this and the problem in those cases is that it is not truly the main blog loop and so it doesn’t mesh with our own settings in that regard.

    By the time your theme’s index.php template is loaded WordPress has already executed the main blog loop query and events are indeed included in the result set – so actually The Events Calendar is operating as expected here.

    Your theme, rather oddly, goes on to form a new custom query based on the one just executed by WordPress which it then executes before looping over the new results. Since this second query is not actually the main blog loop The Events Calendar makes no attempt to integrate events.

    I’m unsure why your theme needs to do this – but, interestingly, within the blog.php template the main blog loop query is still accessible. Thus if within templates/blog.php you find:

    $the_query = (!$custom_query) ? $wp_query : $custom_query;

    Then change this to:

    $the_query = $wp_query;

    You should find everything works as expected. Of course, modifying theme code directly in this way isn’t always ideal so you may wish to make such a change from within a child theme.

    I hope that helps 🙂

    And to think I grabbed a template to save time 😛 I will definitely want to set this up as a child theme now. Thanks for tracking down the issue. The code you suggested worked perfectly.

    My pleasure.

    I’ll go ahead and close the thread – but if you need assistance with anything else please don’t hesitate to create new threads as needed and one of the team will be only too happy to help 🙂

    Also, if you have a moment to spare, we’d love to hear your thoughts on The Events Calendar over on our plugin review page – thanks again!
