Events List Widget and Google
GuestHi,
I am trying out Events Calendar and looking to upgrade to Pro. I found a very serious problem. I added an upcoming Events Widget to my blog posts. now, when I do google search and my blog post comes up in results, it shows upcoming events right under the blog post result. Moreover, the URL for those events points to blog itself, not actual events. This is not something I want to happen. I removed the widget from my blog posts, but events still who up under blog posts in Google still appear. How long does it take to refresh results?
Thank you,

ParticipantHey Greg,
I’m sorry to hear about this! This is, admittedly, some odd behavior that I’ve never heard of happening before…
I’m curious what might’ve caused this; it may be a result of some of the HTML markup generated by your theme or something.
Regardless of such, unfortunately Google’s search results do not propagate on a set schedule, and there’s no way to “force” and update 🙁 It will likely be refreshed in a matter of days. If you have other updates and content changes happening on your site, that will help speed up the process because Google will see that the site has changed since it was last indexed…
I hope this helps!

GuestHello George,
Thanks for prompt response.
I came across this thread where Brian is acknowledging that this is the issue with the widget.
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/google-search-results-adding-events-to-post-descriptionIt looks like the exact issue I am having. Can you please confirm that there is indeed an issue with widget and fix is coming?
Thank you,

ParticipantHey Greg,
Good find! The detail of import is what Brian wrote here:
There shouldn’t be any structured data showing for the widget, we are limiting that to single-event pages only. It sounds like the widget is causing this on your posts.
As it stands, we’re not sure why this structured data conflict is happening; so, apologies if I wasn’t clear about the status of this issue. I’d never heard of this until your thread, though the fact that there are other reports of now indeed make the case that this could be a code problem within our own software.
It could also be theme-related, or a combination of these factors.
Regardless of such, there is not currently a fix for this. I’d recommend staying tuned to updates since we will release a fix there if we are able to figure out the problem – check the “changelogs” of releases to see if this is mentioned there on any given update.
Thank you for your patience with this!
