ParticipantHi,
It would appear that the events calendar widget is no longer functioning normally. There are a couple of strange things I’ve noticed while testing:
1. The calendar widget begins working normally when i move ahead 1 month, then back to the current month.
2. The calendar widget works on pages other than the home page.
3. Removing/re-adding the widget did not fix the problem.
I’m hesitant to de-activate the theme to activate another one because I don’t want to lose any of the customizations set up so far.
I have considered uninstalling/re-installing the plugin, but I don’t want to lose the events entered so far either. Would these be deleted if i did this? Thanks in advance for your help.June 10, 2014 at 2:54 pm #217401Barry
MemberHi – sorry you’re hitting up against difficulties here.
It’s always sensible to take the precaution of making a backup, but generally speaking there is little risk of losing event data by deactivating/reactivating the plugin – all of the events remain in the database, it’s just that WordPress will “ignore” them if the plugin isn’t there to help it understand and work with them.
I’m not quite sure I see the problem though – can you describe exactly what it is that isn’t working as expected?

ParticipantHi There,
I was asking about uninstalling/re-installing, not deactivating, and reactivating. I imagine that changes things? As for the problem itself, as mentioned above, the calendar widget on the home page is not showing events on all the days that there are events (june 11th – 26th should have a little dot representing an event, and be hyperlinked to the event, however they are blank). When i click the forward arrow on the calendar widget to go to the next month, then click the back arrow on the widget to go back to this month, the calendar then begins showing all the events as it should. The issue is that upon loading of the widget, it’s missing all those events.
Thanks

MemberHi!

No, not really – right now though we do have a few deactivation hooks none exist to remove data (and WordPress will not automatically purge things either).
Thanks also for confirming the problem – I can see that now, though I’m afraid it’s not something I can replicate locally:
Iโm hesitant to de-activate the theme to activate another one because I donโt want to lose any of the customizations set up so far.
I completely understand, but perhaps you could use a testing environment (this could be as simple as installing a fresh copy of WordPress in a subdirectory) in order to run through our standard troubleshooting steps?
If you did this, you could effectively troubleshoot backwards – start with nothing but our plugins and a default theme, then start building up until you have an approximation of your live site – and try to detect if one of the other plugins/your theme is triggering this.
Let me know how you get on ๐

ParticipantHi Barry,
Unfortunately this doesn’t really help me. Even if i do a clean install of wordpress, and that makes the widget work, re-installing and formatting the theme (which has taken months of dev time) is not an option. As a paid plugin, I had hoped that basic widget functionality of Events Calendar Pro would not be an issue. Is there no further support you can offer around this? Thanks

ParticipantUpdate: I took the risk and applied the basic wordpress theme, and it appears the widget works under those conditions. The theme that was active before i switched to the basic WP theme was Volcano: http://themeforest.net/item/volcano-responsive-wordpress-magazine-blog/4094529
Do you have any idea what may be causing this? i stripped the home page down to basics, with the calendar as the only widget, and i’m still getting the same buggy behaviour.
Thanks,

MemberHi Tim,
It’s hard to say in situations like this. Historically we’ve found there are themes that do neat things with custom loops but unfortunately forget to “clean up” after themselves, which can impact on other components.
Unfortunately I don’t think there is much more we can do with regards to the Volcano compatibility issue – this isn’t a problem that’s being widely reported and we definitely don’t see it on default themes as you discovered which tends to point to the problem lying with the theme rather than our widget code.
Is approaching the theme author an option here?

ParticipantI ended up resolving the issue with the theme developer.
thanks!
