HI Guys, I am having trouble with the pro. Once activated the calendar can no longer load, it just keeps timing out. I have tried the debug you recommend but could not see it giving any errors. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi ngaire, sorry to hear you are having problems. Can you provide more information about the issue and or provide an example to where this is happening? Have you tried the obvious:

    1. Checked that you are running the latest version of WP and the plugins?
    2. Flushed your permalinks by visiting Settings > Permalinks?
    3. Made sure your server has enough memory allocated for your website? http://www.dailyblogging.org/wordpress/increase-wordpress-memory-limit/
    4. Deactivated all other plugins to see if there’s a plugin conflict?
    5. Reverted to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out a possible conflict with your theme?

Please try all those steps to see if that helps and please provide a link to where the problem is occurring so we can see for ourselves what’s going on.

    Thanks,
    Jonah

    Hi Jonah,
Yes apart from the checking the server has enough memory (which I am doing now as I type) I have done all those other steps. We also had an issue last week with our hosting where they sent this message to us, I am not sure if this is linked to the calendar as it all happened about the same time. (can i email it to you instead of posting)

Are you able to help me further please.

Hi ngaire, yes please email me the message from your host and include a link to your website and provide me WP admin access so I can take a look.

    Thanks,
    Jonah

    Hi ngaire,

I was able to recreate the issue. Right after I activated Pro I could not load the calendar. The only thing I can think of is that one, it is a lack of memory allocated for your website on the server. Or two, there is a conflict with another plugin which you have a lot of plugins installed that could potentially be causing issues. The first thing I would need to do is deactivate all other plugins on the website to verify for myself that there is no conflict and the issue it still there. The second thing I would need to do (if the first thing doesn’t work) is see how much memory is allocated for the website and try to bump this up.

UPDATE: while typing this out the calendar did finally load so the plugin is working, just very slow and I don’t think this is actually the plugin that’s the problem. I think it’s either your web host or other plugins that are slowing things down. So, I’ve got to try one of the two things above with your permission and at a time that is allowable for your website to potentially be down while I’m troubleshooting.

It may be a good idea to setup a development copy of the website so we can test things like this without affecting the live site.

Let me know how you’d like to proceed.

    Thanks,
    Jonah

    Hi Ngaire,

I’ve taken another look at this and it does appear to be a problem with our Pro plugin but I was told by one of the developers that it could also be a server issue or an issue with WordPress in general when there are so many posts (2724 events and almost 500 regular posts)… Unfortunately I don’t have a solution for you other than to not run Pro if you want to use the calendar at this point. Or, try to reduce the number of event posts (and regular posts) you have overall.

The calendar seems to load fine with Pro deactivated. We do have some tickets to work on optimizing code and queries overall to improve performance but we also need to take a look at instances where there are hundreds or thousands of events and why the Pro plugin is choking or causing WordPress to choke.

That’s about all I can say or offer at this point. If you have any questions, please let me know and trust that we will work hard to get this resolved ASAP.

    Regards,
    Jonah
