We have just purchased Events Calendar Pro to replace another calendar and events program. We have a page already set up with introductory text at the top. This text is to be followed by the calendar with links in a small sidebar. I have placed the [tribe_events] shortcode on the page but all that appears is the calendar across the whole page and the sidebar has disappeared. With the other program we used, the shortcode was inserted and the calendar appeared and we used a list events widget in the sidebar. Is this not possible with Events Calendar Pro? Why is the breadcrumb trail showing the page named as page rather than Events which is what it should be?

    Hi Geoffrey

Test how your /events page looks when you change these settings: Events » Settings » Display »

Default stylesheet used for events templates

    & Events template.

    display templates

I believe this will restore your sidebar. You can also see in Appearance » Widgets that you can add some additional widgets to your sidebar without shortcodes.

The breadcrumbs are a result of your theme or a plugin on your site. https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/showing-events-and-venues-in-breadcrumbs/ could help you get this resolved. Add the snippet to either your child theme’s functions.php file or use the My Custom Functions plugin.

https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/breadcrumbs/#post-1113751 is a similar thread with a shorter snippet that may work for you as well.

    Please keep me posted.

    Thanks
    Courtney 🙂

    Hi Courtney

Thanks very much for the prompt reply. I have managed a workaround for the events calendar page (you can check out the updated one at https://www.gsq.org.au/gsq-events/). What I did was create a new page with my content on the top and the [tribe_events] shortcode below and the sidebar has the menu links with the short code a for a list below. What I am concerned about is the slug for events calendar which is different to the slug for the new page and that at some point the EC slug will overwrite the page – if this all makes sense.

However, I still have an issue with the single event page. Do I create a new page with a sidebar and then put a shortcode on that page for displaying single events? I will play around with the code on the link you sent.

I also tried replying to the email address you specified but my email bounced back twice.

    Thanks
    Geoffrey

    Hi Geoffrey

When I click on any of the events on the calendar showing in your link, it will take me to the single events. Each single event seems to be working. https://www.gsq.org.au/event/special-opening/ as an example. Can you help me understand a bit more of what you are looking for?

For the email address, did you correct the spaces and [ ] characters? We do that to prevent spambots from detecting the address on a website.

    Thanks
    Courtney 🙂

    Thanks Courtney

Yes, the links to single events are working but the single event page is called page instead of the name of the single event eg Special Opening. I would also like to have a sidebar on the page. What do I need to get that working? Have I missed something in one of the Primers?
The forum email address does not include any spaces or [] and I retyped the address.

    Thanks

The sidebar would be changing “Events Template” to “sidebar” or “default page template”.

I am unable to assist further with the breadcrumbs. I’d suggest checking in with your theme developer regarding those settings.

Did you retry emailing support [at] theeventscalendar [.] com ?

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics.
