ParticipantHi,
We’re having an issue with the loading of our Events Calendar Pro. The issue arose last week and I think it may be to do with the amount of events we have in our system, but am unsure? There’s 5,080 events in the system at the moment, but most of the are recurring regular events.
We have 3 events per day viewable in the monthly calendar and the cache is set to help speed things up.
The other plug-ins we have running are:
Easy Table
Post Expirator
Events Calendar
Events Calendar Pro
WPS Hide LoginWe also used Wordfence plugin, but have deactivated it.
I’ve noticed the problem is when loading front and back end.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,

MemberHey Matt and welcome to the forums!
Wow, that’s a lot of events — awesome to see a calendar with so much activity!
Having that many posts would certainly slow down any site, but there would be a few ways to help reduce the strain:
- Caching assets (as it sounds like you’re doing, so great job!) using a plugin like W3 Total Cache.
- Showing only the first instance of a recurring series. This option is available in Events > Settings (screenshot)
- Trying a different host. If you have a shared hosting package, then switching to something with a dedicated server option would certainly speed things up.
- Increasing PHP memory. There are ways to do this on your own, but sometimes requires the host to help accommodate.
Let me know if any of these helps shave some time off of loading!
Cheers,

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Thanks for your reply,
We have a lot of ongoing classes so I don’t want to make it so only the first instance can be viewable, but I have changed the ‘clean up recurring events’ and ‘create recurring events’ to 3 months each (instead of 12 months). Does this mean it will automatically remove the events before/after that date? or do we need to do it manually?
Also will it keep automatically generating events for 3 months after the current date, or will the event simple expire 3 months from now?
Thanks,

MemberHi Matt and thanks for following up!
Awesome, that’s a great first step to see if things start improving. The cleanup will indeed scrub recurring instances 3 months in both directions per the range set in Events > Settings > General (screenshot). In other words, past instances will automatically be scrubbed once they are a certain age and future instances will only be created for the future period entered and none will be automatically created after that.
Thanks!
