GuestI’ve been looking into a probable purchase of your Event Calendar Pro plugin for WordPress – currently testing out your free version. A couple of questions I need to know if the plugin can deliver on:
1. Display Calendars for different event categories/ tags:
I need to display different calendars on different pages – for instance the homepage will have a calendar with public events and an internal page (ex. Rabbits) will have a calendar with “Rabbit” events. Do I understand correctly that this can be achieved via creating Categories and using this short code – and embedding on a page etc.:
[tribe_mini_calendar category=”public”]
[tribe_mini_calendar category=”rabbits”]
2. Community Events – Submit an Event function:
For specific a specific calendar I need to be able to allow users to “Submit an Event”. I understand that your Community Events Product can deliver this functionality, and from what I see you can choose which category you want an event to be submitted for. ex. http://wenatchee.org/events/community/add | http://wpshindig.com/events/community/add
If I’m wrong can you please correct me.
Otherwise what I need to know is how do the two products relate – Event Pro Calendar and Community Events? Do you need to acquire and install the two separately etc.?Thanks in advance.

MemberHey Sinai,
These are great questions! Let’s tackle them one at a time. 🙂
Do I understand correctly that this can be achieved via creating Categories and using this short code – and embedding on a page etc.:
That is correct. Events Calendar PRO includes a number of shortcodes for the calendar widgets–including the mini calendar–that can be embedded in any page or post and filtered for a specific category or tag.
I understand that your Community Events Product can deliver this functionality, and from what I see you can choose which category you want an event to be submitted
That is correct as well and, in fact kind of answers your next question as well:
Otherwise what I need to know is how do the two products relate – Event Pro Calendar and Community Events? Do you need to acquire and install the two separately etc.?
Events Calendar PRO has a feature that allows you to specify defaults, such as a default address, venue, and organizer when publishing events. When it is installed with Community Events, that allows you to set those defaults and it also opens up the possibility for folks to create recurring events as well. One other thing having both plugin together provides is the ability for you to create custom fields for people submitting events.
Does this help answer your questions? Please let me know. 🙂
Cheers!

GuestHi Geoff,
Thanks for your reply. It’s definitely helpful and I could probably be looking at a combination of the two – Events Calendar and Community Events to achieve both ability to display different calendars by Category and to allow users to submit events (but only for specific categories).
I do need a further clarification if you can please help – I’ve encountered an issue:
-
<li>Category Calendars and back “All Events” on single event page: <br /> I’ve currently downloaded the free Events Calendar version to test/ make sure it’s working with my WordPress theme and so far so good. I’ve hit a quirk though that I’m not seeing the immediate solution for. I’m displaying my calendar in month view for the category only, which uses this URL path “…?tribe_events_cat=…”. When I click on an individual event, it brings me to the individual event page with a URL path “…?tribe_events=…” On that individual event page the Event Calendar displays an “All Events” back link – which takes you to the “all events” page with the URL path “?post_type=tribe_events”. I also have a breadcrumb employed that does the same. But the functionality I need is for the “All Events” and the breadcrumb to link back to the full “Categories” calendar – with just the “Category” events displayed. Is this possible and how is this possible?
Thanks in advance.

MemberHi Sinai,
Glad my last reply helped!
I’m afraid that what you’re describing with the breadcrumbs is expected behavior. You could theoretically override the template file and replace that link with one of your own that goes to the user’s last viewed page instead of All Events. However, that link does indeed go to All Events right out of the box.
Cheers!

GuestThanks for the answer Geoff – yes the override option will be necessary in my case. I’ll need to look into the specifics for doing that.
