On the mobile version of our site, once we go to the events calendar (which is located in the main level menu bar, as a top level items), we can’t access any sub-level items from other menu-bar items (drop-down tabs). Generally, there would be a drop down arrow allowing us to see the second-level or sub navigation items of the main menu bar items, but in this instance, we can only go into the main-level items.

Is this a compatibility issue with our theme (MasterStudy) and if so, how can we solve it?

    Thanks!

Hey there, @CDC! Nice to see you again. šŸ™‚

This appears to be a theme conflict as far as the styling goes. While the best person to answer the question is likely the theme author, one thing you might try doing is changing your calendar template in Events > Settings > Display. If you have it set to default calendar template, change it to one of your theme templates and vice versa. That can help avoid conflicts like this.

If not, then I would suggest reaching out to the theme author as a next course of action.

    Thanks!

    Hi Geoff,

Thanks for getting back to us on this! We had tried changing the calendar template as you suggested, but this doesn’t seem to work, and also possess some other issues, due to the fact that the event calendar page itself (with the calendar layout) is a virtual page.

We did contact the thememakers actually, and they mentioned it is a conflict with the plugin, which they are not too sure about. They said it may require some further coding.

Would it be possible to investigate further if we were to provide you with a tester admin account (so that you can look into the issue and the coding more).

    Thanks!

    Hey @CDC,

Thanks for reaching out to the theme developer! It may very well be that theĀ theme and plugin do not play well together in this case and–as the theme developer suggested–will require further coding.

We’re fairly limited in how much we can support custom development questions, I’m afraid. That said, I’d be happy to try to point you in the right direction if I can if you have any specific questions as you dig into this.

    Thanks,
    Geoff

    Hi Geoff,

This is one of the error notes/messages from the thememaker with regards to this:

“There is an error in your console because of a conflict with your events calendar plugin. It’s calling select2.js second time”

Is this something that we can correct? And accordingly fix the navigation issue?

    Thanks,
    CDC

Hey @CDC, thanks for following up!

Yeah, select2 is an integral part of the the calendar and unfortunately cannot be dequeued on it’s own. You could dequeue the script that calls it using a snippet like this:

    https://gist.github.com/geoffgraham/22eaf88a8fc1e35f8cdd

I have to warn, however, that it will likely have an effect across the entire plugin as this will deactivate the AJAX feature when filtering events.

If that does not seem to do the trick, then I would suggest trying to dequeue the select2 script on the theme side of things so that it does not interfere with the calendar.

    Thanks!
    Geoff

    Hi there Geoff,

We had just been in touch with the thememakers to help sort out the select-2 issue; they have solved this from the theme end, but they have mentioned that there may be a plugin issue causing this:

Uncaught ReferenceError: google is not defined

    http://dev.cdchk.org/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar-pro/src/resources/js/tribe-events-ajax-maps.min.js?ver=4.0.5

Do you know anything about this? And how we can go about correcting this. Checking the mobile issue now, we can actually see the drop-down arrows, but once we click them, they expand briefly showing the second layer menu items before closing again – so we can’t actually access/click into any of these items.

Please refer to http://dev.cdchk.org/events/ on mobile to see this issue again.

    Thanks!

    Hey CDC!

I’ve been looking at the console and haven’t been able to see thatĀ same error–though I do see what you mean about the sub-menu jumping when clicked.

Have you tried deactivating all other non-calendar plugins? That willĀ at least pinpoint whether there is a conflict with another plugin.

Let’s see what we find and go from there.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I’ve tried the testing as you’ve suggested and it’s quite strange – it appears that the mobile navigation works when two plugins are disabled – ‘WooCommerce’ and ‘Contact Form 7’. If either one of these two plugins is enabled then it doesn’t work – suggesting that both these plugins affect the sub-menu mobile navigation issue.

Let me know how you think we should proceed!

    Thanks,
    CDC

    Hey CDC!

It appears there are additional conflicts with how the submenu is written and how it interacts with other third-party scripts that make it very tough for us to troubleshoot on our end.Ā I’ve been wrestling with this one and have even run it by others on the team here but we all agree this one is best suited for the theme developer to check out.

My apologies — I hate the idea of passing you back and forth but do think it will help zero in on the issue and get it resolved. If you’d like, I’d be happy to keep this thread open in the meantime and answer any questions thatĀ the theme developer might have while digging into this further.

Thanks so much for sticking with me on this!

Thanks Geoff – will check once again with the thememakers and see what they have to say.

Please do leave the thread open in case we do have any further questions.

    Thanks,
