My main feed of events is populating the website backwards. Today’s events are showing up at the end of the feed and not today’s events first. This si a community site and I want to fix this asap. Thanks

    Hi there cgarwriter,

Sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties.

Can you point me to an example of this problem – I did visit your site but was unable to see the problem. Right now it looks like you have only week and day view enabled – is it possible some confusion is stemming from the fact that, in day view, ongoing events are listed first of all in a section of their own?

For instance, if you look at November 14, an event starting at 8pm is shown before an event starting at 1pm. However, the first event actually began on the 13th (so it’s an ongoing event and its positioning is correct) whereas the 1pm event begins on the 14th.

Does that clarify things or can you provide a specific example if not?

    Thanks!

No that doesn’t make any difference. I changed it to list and still the last item in the database is listed first and the first is last. The database needs to load in ascending order and is not. It is loading in the wrong order. If you go to the bottom and look at the last page, you can see the events that should be showing first are last.

I’m not sure I see this/am understanding you. If I look at your main events page I can see if it is now showing list view by default. The dates and times of the events I see listed are in this order:

    • Nov 13 @ 8pm (ongoing)
    • Nov 14 @ 1pm
    • Nov 14 @ 6pm
    • Nov 15 @ 10am
    • Nov 15 @ 11am
    • Nov 15 @11am
    • Nov 15 @ 3pm
    • Nov 16 @ 11am
    • Nov 16 @ 12pm
    • Nov 17 @ 7pm

So it seems to be in the expected chronological order, best I can tell.

I changed it to list and still the last item in the database is listed first and the first is last. The database needs to load in ascending order and is not. It is loading in the wrong order.

(Emphasis is mine, of course) so you quite literally mean you want it to load not chronologically but by post ID? Or are you trying to show the most recently added event first?

Sorry for the confusion, just trying to get a better grasp on what you’re trying to achieve here.

I am not seeing that when I look at the site. I am seeing it backwards with the last one showing from January.

Are you logging into the main site allekiskicalendar.com to see it as others would?

I made a current events link on the main page when it says submit your event and that is how it is supposed to look when the main page is called up. When I call up the main page in the main window I see the Central Presbyterian Church Clothing Closet which is the last event in the database dated in January.

Yes – unless you provide credentials there is no other way for us to view it 🙂

OK, so you’re referring to the main blog loop on the front page of your site?

When this setting is enabled events are ordered in such a way that the furthest in the future are included first of all: is that not what you want? How do you want them to be integrated (or would you prefer not to have them show up within the main blog loop? If not, you can toggle this from the Events > Settings screen).

    Let me know!

” you can toggle this from the Events > Settings screen)”
So I go to this screen and do not know what to toggle? Mind filling me in on what tab and what selection to make? I am not a programmer. I don’t know php or ANY programming language. (Cobol 25 years ago) But that won’t help me now. If you can’t tell me how to toggle this so the the date reads now first rather than January of 2015. Is there a way you are able to do this?

Please let me know asap because there is a community waiting. The main page should match the order you see on the menu above where it says “Current Events”
The entire list in the center as shown puts it in the wrong order. These posts of events show the last date which is in January. This is a calendar program and needs to show the Current Events first, like a calendar should. Thank you.

I did not mean to place my password there. I changed it. I tried to edit my last post but it didn’t allow me. I changed my password from the one I put in above.

My events are also listing backwards. If you go to my site at http://www.dosafl.com and click the “Public Calendar” under the picture of Bishop Felipe Estevez it will redirect you to a page with a list view of his category of events. However after clicking “Next Events” for about three to four pages in you will eventually notice that the events will start listing backwards. For example, I will get to the first week of December 2014 and when I click “Next Events” the next page will show May 2015 at the top and as you scroll down the dates will appear backwards chronologically.

Please help as this calendar is A-critical.

    Many thanks,

    Brandon Duncan

Glad your issue is resolved, Brandon Duncan!

Just a note though that it is almost always best to create a new thread of your own, regardless of how similar it may appear to someone else’s.

As I’m sure you can appreciate it can be especially tricky to assist multiple people with similar but potentially different problems, all at different stages of the troubleshooting process, within the same thread: sticking to one thread per issue per user is far more effective, reduces noise and let’s us focus on helping each individual 🙂

So I go to this screen and do not know what to toggle? Mind filling me in on what tab and what selection to make?

    Apologies for not being clearer.

If you visit Events → Settings → General (ie, the first tab on that screen) you should see an option marked include events in main blog loop. Unchecking this – and of course hitting the save button – should remove events from your main blog loop.

The entire list in the center as shown puts it in the wrong order. These posts of events show the last date which is in January. This is a calendar program and needs to show the Current Events first, like a calendar should.

Integrating events into a blog loop presents some challenges if you want the events to respect date order – regardless of whether that is ascending or descending order – since your blog posts continue to be ordered by publication date.

Experience and customer feedback has generally shown us that the current approach is the best fit in general, but it is certainly possible to reconfigure it. In this case, though, might it be easiest to turn off the setting I detailed above and remove them from the main blog loop entirely?

If you do want to change the direction in which they are ordered (or the field by which they are ordered), though, you can – pleases see the following resource for an example of doing this:

    https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation/order-events-in-main-blog-loop-by-post-date/

    I hope that helps 🙂

Hi! It’s been a while so I’m going to go ahead and close this thread. If we can help with anything else, though, please don’t hesitate to create new threads as needed. Thanks!
