Hello,
It seems like the Featured Image being imported from Eventbrite is being down sized in WordPress.
Here’s an example:
http://www.samysphotoschool.com/event/the-wedding-photography-workshop-with-joe-mirta-barnet-pas/
You can see on my site, samysphotoschool.com, that the image is pixelated. The original image added in eventbrite is 2100 × 1397, but the one in WP is 400x200px.
Is there a setting I am missing that will allow me to import the full size image from Eventbrite? Please help.
Thanks!
Hi.
I visited https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-wedding-photography-workshop-with-joe-mirta-barnet-pas-tickets-31072064381 and the cover photo there is this image: https://img.evbuc.com/https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.evbuc.com%2Fimages%2F27221507%2F31990292419%2F1%2Foriginal.jpg?w=800&rect=0%2C323%2C2100%2C1050&s=d3b61fc3c639defc05175c13420d7329 (this image is 800×400).
The image displayed at your site is http://www.samysphotoschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/31072064381-27221507-1.jpg, which is 400×200.
It’s not blurry when displayed in its native size; it’s blurry on your site because it’s displayed in a larger format than its native size.
Of course, the issue then is that it imported 400×200 instead of at least 800×400…
So I imported that event to my own local testing site and it added /wp-content/uploads/31072064381-27221507.jpg to my Media Library and that image is indeed 400×200, just like your site’s…
I didn’t find anything helpful at https://www.eventbrite.com/developer/v3/response_formats/image/, but if you load this in your browser (the API call our plugin makes) — https://www.eventbriteapi.com/v3/events/31072064381/?token=[Your personal OAuth token]&expand=ticket_classes,organizer,venue,logo — you’ll be able to find “logo” (Eventbrite’s term for the event’s featured image), “200”, and “jpg” on that page — or just see this short video demonstration: https://cl.ly/3V3Q2t3o0Z1r
(You can get Your personal OAuth token at https://www.eventbrite.com/myaccount/apps/)
Changing line 699 of /wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-eventbrite-tickets/src/Tribe/API.php from
$tmp = download_url( $event->logo->url );
to
$tmp = download_url( $event->logo->original->url );
solved the issue in my testing.(Please note that if you make this change in the core plugin file, it will be overwritten anytime you update the Eventbrite Tickets plugin, and you’ll lose your custom edit.)
I’ve passed this information along to our developers, and I’ll mark this ticket as Pending Fix, which means this thread should receive a reply once the applicable fix has been released. I cannot guarantee when it will be fixed as it’s in the development team’s hands now. They need to assign it, code it, test it, and schedule it for release.
I apologize for this issue and appreciate your understanding and patience.
Hello,
That seemed to fix it for the most part. I’m still seeing a little bit of pixelization and the image looks like its being squeezed vertically.
Here’s the EB Listing for a class: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/nikon-dslr-basics-with-paul-van-allen-cc-tickets-32270060620
And here’s the listing on my site: http://www.samysphotoschool.com/event/nikon-dslr-basics-with-paul-van-allen-cc/
As you can see, on my site it’s pixelated a bit and squeezed vertically.
Please let me know if you have a fix for that.
Thanks,
MarioMario, I’m guessing this is due to WordPress’ default jpg compression settings.
Install a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/force-jpeg-quality/ (third-party, not guaranteed or supported by us) and re-import the event from Eventbrite and see if that helps.
What about the image being squeezed vertically? It looks like your plugin might have a height restriction for the Featured Image. For example. If I’m importing an event from EB that has a featured image that is 940×470, my WP site is displaying that same image at 940×432, squeezing vertically and making it look strange.
Where and how can I fix that?
Thanks!
I looked and it’s not distorted for me on my desktop: https://cl.ly/262w2s1V0X2n
Maybe you’re looking at it in a different browser width?
The image being displayed is actually full size, but it’s limited by width: 100% (which is typically a good thing).
If you share an annotated screenshot or video screen capture, it might help communicate what you’re seeing and what exactly the issue is.
Hi,
Thanks for the response. I had to fix the particular link I sent you. I found that 1160×533 was a dimension that would not distort.
Here’s a link to another event that I did not use an 1160×533 image for:
http://www.samysphotoschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/32142082835-28395643-1-1160×650.png
In fact, if you look at pretty much any of my events, you’ll see that they are all distorted: http://www.samysphotoschool.com/events/
Can you please tell me how to remove the height restriction that is currently there?
Thanks,
MarioThat height 100% is coming from http://www.samysphotoschool.com/wp-content/themes/language-school/css/cmsmasters-events-style.css?ver=1.0.0
Therefore, I’d suggest discussing this issue with your theme author/developer.
Please let me know if I missed a piece of this puzzle 🙂
