ParticipantHi,
everything seems to be working well (I’m using events calendar pro and community events), I just feel that I might be missing something obvious.
I’m working for a charity that is building a site that will provide support for village halls in the local area. Each hall has a page on the site that shows images and gives a description of the hall, booking fees, etc. I would like to have a widget in the side bar that shows the upcoming events for just that venue. I have been able to do this by making seperate instances of the ‘featured venue’ widget for each of the halls and using the ‘widget logic’ plugin to ensure that the correct widget only displays on a specific page.
But this seems a really inelegant way of doing things. Is there a better way? I have about 50 halls (not all of them will want a calendar, admittedly) … and the site is bilingual (English/Welsh), but I’m hoping to deal with that next.
thanks

KeymasterHi John,
Thanks for reaching out to us! I will try to help with this.
It sounds like your current solution may be the most straightforward, though it sounds like a lot of extra work when you have that many separate widgets to create.
The calendar widget views can be recreated outside of widget areas using shortcodes, as is described here. These shortcodes can be configured to display a particular category. You could create a custom page template that passed the desired category into the shortcode programmatically, and it would show a different calendar on each page. The question would be how to associate each page with the proper category for the events to show.
All of that is to say, it is possible, but only with some customization. Unfortunately, I am limited in how much support I can provide for customizations such as this. If you are feeling adventurous, I could help point you in the right direction. But this is something a PHP developer would have to put together for you.
Let me know if this helped at all, or if you have any other questions.
Thanks,

ParticipantHi, thanks for the reply.
Yes, it does help … even just to know that I’m not missing something obvious. I could go down the customization route although keeping the code as supplied also appeals to me as it’s more important that the system is robust rather than elegant.
