I just found your the-event-calendar and event-tickets and installed the free versions on my site. Everything is working GREAT except no RSVP emails are being sent/received.

That said, I have a question related to purchasing the Plus version of Event Tickets. All of our events are free events, so we would very much like to avoid making people slog through a WooCommerce purchase page. We love how elegantly simple the RSVP option is to use. We have the RSVP display in the event calendar itself.

We would, however, like to ask people for a bit more info (such as Member ID, want to be seated with a particular other guest, names of other guests when registering for more than one ‘ticket’, etc.). If we upgrade and then select the RSVP option for the tickets, will we be able to ask for this additional info when people RSVP (register) without making them go through WooCommerce or other commerce site? In other words, will the RSVP info-gathering upon signing up for a free ticket ask for the additional information but still function entirely within our WP site (like the free version of Event Ticket does)?

    Thanks,
    Deb

Good evening Deb and welcome to the Events Calendar forum!

Thank you for your interest in our products.
We’ll be glad to answer your questions.

The short answer is yes. You can use Event Tickets Plus additional attendee meta information in RSVP tickets.

In other words, getting a license for Event Tickets Plus will absolutely meet your needs.

    As for the emails not being sent properly, I would recommend installing, configuring and testing the following plugin: <u>https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-wp-smtp/</u&gt;

    This should fix it.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

Thanks! So glad that the Plus additional attendee info works with the elegantly simple RSVP part. Will I have to install Woocommerce when I get Plus, so that the additional attendee info form can be used?

I did look at the SMTP plugins, but I have no idea how to configure them, and could find no helpful info online or in the WordPress forums. I have my site hosted on a shared Hostgator account. Would I configure it to the Hostgator email system, to gmail, or another way?

I would love it if you could provide configuration details.

    Thanks so much!

No, you do not need to install WooCommerce for things to work the way you want them to.
That being said, you can decide to install it at any given point and use it alongside RSVP tickets should you want to.

Basically what this plugin does is that it “takes over” all WordPress email tasks.
Normally, the WordPress server tries to send emails directly, but sometimes (as you found out) that does not work out well.

There can be a number of reasons for this, so it is usually easier to bypass the server completely (using the plugin).

You should find the configuration instructions here: https://wp-ecommerce.net/easy-wordpress-smtp-send-emails-from-your-wordpress-site-using-a-smtp-server-2197

From there you can use any valid email address you currently own (or your can create one with Hostgator if you prefer). The only important thing is that you have access to the required info to populate the settings screen.

Once that is done, there is even a testing interface available to make sure emails are being sent correctly.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

Thanks for that info. I do so love your add-on!

I called Hostgator to ask about the SMTP issue just now, and they gave me the info I needed, and it appears to be working great now in sending the RSVP emails.

I so appreciate your fast and helpful responses, as well as those of other support staff.

    Have a great day!
