I’m having a weird, recurring problem. I tried the free version of The Events Calendar, then upgraded to Pro. I added a few events to test the calendar. One of the events showed up in the sidebar but not on the events page and not in the map view. I deleted the event and added it again and it worked. Now, I’m ready to add the actual events so that I can launch this site and — the same thing happened! I added an event and the venue via “Add Event.” I noticed that the event wasn’t showing up in map view. I opened the venue and saw that the address that I had added had been *replaced* with some text that I had added to the content block about the hours of the show. I removed the text that didn’t belong in that address. I replaced it with the correct address. I checked and double-checked. All the info is correct… the address, the city, the state, the zip. It still won’t show up on the map and in the Events page list. Then I deleted the venue (permanently) and added it again. No go. Then I deleted the event and added it again. It’s still not working. The event in question is the National Restaurant Association. It shows up in the sidebar. And it shows up in the Month view on the Events page. But it will not show up in the Map view nor does it show up in the list of events below the Map.

I’m sorry you’ve had such a rough ride, here.

It’s possible the venue for some reason doesn’t have any geolocation data (the coordinates of the venue expressed as longitude/latitude), which would explain its absence only from map view.

Can you try editing the venue, make a minor change to the street address – save – then change it back and save again? Does that resolve this?

That worked! Perfect! Thanks so much. I *love* this calendar and was worried about that one problem. Meantime, is there a way for me to remove “previous events” from the navigation if there are no previous events? And is there a way for me to change the CSS without it being written over each time I update the plugin?

    Excellent!

Right now there is no built in mechanism for removing that link but it is actually something we’re considering, so please do post a request on our UserVoice page (or add your support to any suitable existing requests) 🙂

And is there a way for me to change the CSS without it being written over each time I update the plugin?

    Definitely.

The trick is basically to create a folder within your theme named tribe-events and then place a stylesheet called tribe-events.css within it. Full details (and other related approaches) are described in the Themer’s Guide.

    Does that help?

When you say that I have to create a folder inside my “theme,” are referring to the WordPress theme that I’m using? I’m using the Headway theme. If I add a folder into my theme folder, won’t it get deleted if I update my theme?

That’s possible – especially if you are using a commercial theme where automated updates are going to take place – but in that case you can always work from within a child theme. Does that help?

Hi! It’s been a while so I’m going to go ahead and close this thread. If we can help with anything else, though, please don’t hesitate to create new threads as needed. Thanks!
