Hi there. After the most recent update, I am having trouble with some of the event settings. I have fixed the homepage problem (it was defaulting to the blog page) by unchecking “Include events in main blog loop”. But I have 2 more problems:

    1) I want to “Allow users to decide whether to show all instances of a recurring event”, but there is no toggle on the front end, even though I have chosen it on the back end.

2)when I choose to “Show only the first instance of each recurring event” in the settings, it only shows the LAST instance of the event on the front end.

    Thoughts??

    Hi Kristy,

I took a look and located the toggle on your upcoming events list as expected – if you have any further concerns or questions about this I would ask you to create a new thread (as we try to keep to a policy of one issue per thread – thanks!).

Regarding your remarks about the Show only the first instance of each recurring event setting, I’m struggling to find an example of this on your site – can you provide some URLs/screenshots to illustrate what you mean?

    Thanks!

Thanks Barry. I was assuming there would also be a toggle box on the pages of recurring events, where “Show only the first instance” was selected. So those pages (../event/recurring-event-name/all/) would work the same way – showing the first instance, but with a checked toggle box at the top of the page, giving the user the opportunity to uncheck and show all instances.

Side note: When “Show only the first instance” of the event is selected, it shows a past event, since it began in August. I have an event running on the first day of every month, would it be possible to just show the next upcoming instance?
(I guess this is asking a lot. Maybe this could be a feature for the next update? 🙂

So I’m not entirely sure I understand the benefit of hiding recurring instances on a page that is intended to list all of them (on the main events list of course the benefit is quite clear) but we’re definitely open to ideas – and if you want to post this as a feature request we’ll definitely consider it:

Please use tribe.uservoice.com for feature requests – thanks!

Side note: When “Show only the first instance” of the event is selected, it shows a past event, since it began in August.

This could possibly be a bug but may also be a local conflict specific to your site or – not unlikely – a side effect of caching … see my next point!

As for the problem with the last event only showing, it seems to only be happening on the event XXX

So for this I note both that you say A) only one event behaves this way and B) it seems you are also using WP Super Cache. Before we go any further, can I ask you to try clearing/emptying your cache and see if that resolves this?

    Thanks!

Hi Barry. When “Show only the first instance” is selected, it also automatically hides all the recurrences everywhere, not just in the main list. So a page that is intended to list all of them (../event/recurring-event-name/all/) just shows one – the very first one, even if it’s in the past. Is that supposed to happen?

WP-cache was an inactive plugin, so I’ve deleted it. There is no change with this.

    Hi Kristy,

I see what you mean now re the recurring events/all events page – no, I don’t believe that is intended to happen so we’ll certainly get that on our tracker as a bug – thanks for bringing it to our attention 🙂

When viewing all recurring instances for a given event I would expect to see the list begin with the next upcoming event (not the last event as you are experiencing) however I can’t replicate this locally. I do note when you opened this thread you tried deactivating all other plugins and reverting to a default, unmodified theme – can you confirm what the outcome of that test was with regards to this specific problem?

    Thanks!

Hi Barry, sorry for the delay. Deactivating all plugins and reverting to default didn’t fix the problem. I’m still struggling with this with new events created to recur. Hopefully this bug will get fixed in the next release! Thanks so much for your help!

Definitely – let’s wait for that fix to arrive as that should hopefully, at a stroke, solve both aspects of this problem.

Hi, Kristy. This is just a note to let you know that we didn’t get a chance to look at your issue for our maintenance release this time around.

While it’s possible we may have inadvertently fixed it in addressing another issue and welcome your feedback to confirm or deny this once you’ve updated, we want to set your expectations.

Rest assured getting this resolved is still a priority for us. We look forward to addressing this as soon as we’ve got bandwidth/resources to allow it.

Thanks for being part of the TEC community!

    Hey there,

I just wanted to let you know that a fix for this issue is included in our upcoming version 3.3. Keep an eye out on your WordPress Plugins page for an update. Thanks for your patience while we worked on this!

    Cheers,
    Leah
