I am testing my site. We are tried to register for posting event. After registration the message says registration complete check your email. But the event manager do not get confirmation email while I, as an administrator do get an email about someone registered? It did work right earlier. What is happening? I need to get this site going.

    Hi Shah,

I’m sorry to hear you have hit up against some difficulties.

To clarify, are we discussing WordPress’s normal registration process here (which Community Events can take advantage of)? That is, are customers going to example.com/wp-login.php?action=register when they register – or something custom that you have created?

Can you also confirm who you mean when you talk of the “event manager” – do you simply mean the user who is trying to register in order to submit an event?

    Thanks for clarifying!

Thanks for responding. Yes when a new person clicks on submit event, the next screen gives two options, login or register. Obviously they have to click on register since, this is there first time. After clicking option, they come up with the screen asking for user ID and email address. The next screen says your registration is complete, check your email. But there is no email received therefore, the person trying to add/ submit event cannot proceed. I have a feeling that this worked earlier. I will appreciate if you see it yourself by visiting our site medicalevents.com click on submit event and register.

    Hi Shah,

    Thanks for clarifying!

So there are a few possibilities here:

    • One is simply that those emails are being dispatched, but are being caught in spam or junk filters
    • The other is that your web host stops multiple emails from being sent in quick succession, as a measure to prevent their servers from being used to issue spam (checking in with your web host could help to confirm this – and it is also possible to route mail through 3rd party services that do not suffer this kind of limitation)
    • There could be a straight up plugin/theme conflict – our standard testing steps are the best way to determine if this might be the problem

From experience, the first two possibilities are generally the most likely so it’s probably worth starting there πŸ™‚

Thanks Barry: You are very helpful as usual. I contacted Tech support for Ipage (our hosts). I had the gentleman visit our site and click on submit event and register. He also did not receive any email. But was able to find out that this wordpress message was caught in Spam somewhere in Cyberspace. He learnt that this was treated as spasm because the wordpress registration had only two lines or so. One line had a link . His theory is that it would not be treated as spam if it had a few more more lines / words added to registration message. He said there is nothing that they or any other hosting service could do about it. Now I have the following questions.

    1. I tested the site a few weeks back I did receive the registration email. Why did it change its behavior?
    2. Why other users of Community event + The event calendar pro don’t face this problem?
    3. Is there any way / Plugin to modify the message in such a way that it does not gets recognised as spam.?
4.Do you have any other recommendation to deal with this issue ?

    Hi Shah πŸ™‚

The relatively short length of a registration email could certainly be a factor, but I don’t think it’s the only factor. As you highlight, lots of users face no such problem.

I’m also unsure how to interpret the feedback about the emails being caught in spam filters somewhere in cyberspace – if having tested this (or just based on user feedback) you are fairly certain that the intended recipients are not receiving the mails at all, not even in their spam/junk folders, then I’d worry the issue is with the email server provided by your host.

It’s not actually all that uncommon a problem – especially in shared hosting environments – and the best solution in my experience is to route things through a dedicated email service rather than relying on the facilities provided in a typical shared hosting account.

To try and summarize by answering each of your questions:

    1. I tested the site a few weeks back I did receive the registration email. Why did it change its behavior?

Spam/junk filters learn and change their criteria over time. It’s also possible your mail server was blacklisted or that they introduced new changes of their own, limiting what is and isn’t sent.

    2. Why other users of Community event + The event calendar pro don’t face this problem?

Some do and probably for the same kinds of reason.

However, plenty of others have no problem and I think that in itself suggests the issue is less with the content of the emails (at least in this particular case) and more with the source (the sending mail server).

    3. Is there any way / Plugin to modify the message in such a way that it does not gets recognised as spam.?

Like most parts of WordPress it can be customized … but even if this is the problem I’m afraid it’s beyond my area of expertise to advise you on what you might add/change in the registration mail message (again, this is a facet of WordPress itself rather than our own plugin).

4.Do you have any other recommendation to deal with this issue ?

Well, if I were in your shoes my instinct would be to use a different mail service.

There are lots out there such as Mailgun and even a simple dedicated email service can often be far more reliable in my own experience. There are lots of other service providers out there, too, so it’s worth shopping around.

In terms of getting WordPress to send emails through services like those, you can find lots of plugins that will help πŸ™‚

    Thanks Barry:

My hosting package is VPS plan. I paid extra for VPS to avoid situations like this. Anyway, I talked to them again and tested again. I learnt that I do get email if I use my business account [email protected]. I get into problems when I test it using hotmail or gmail accounts. I wish I could make you register and check for yourself.

I have another request. Can you let me know of functional site(s) that actually use, The Calendar PRO, Community Events and Woocommerce Tickets plugins combination??? I believe browsing those sites will be of great help.

    Hi Shah,

Moving to a dedicated email provider is just a suggestion – I’m afraid beyond that, in this case, I don’t think there is too much we can do to help (especially as these emails are standard WordPress registration emails – rather than something directly generated by our plugin).

Please do feel free to browse our showcase πŸ™‚

I’m afraid I don’t have any other examples of sites using the specific combination of plugins you highlighted, though.

I did browsed all sites in your showcase but there is no site with all three plugins, namely The event calendar PRO, Community event and woocommerce Ecommerce ticket? Can you identify one?

Besides basically manually checking them like you have already done, I’m afraid not πŸ™‚

Back to the primary problem of registration emails being marked as spam, I’m afraid at this time I don’t think there is much more we can do on that issue: apart from being something that WordPress itself facilitates – rather than being a facet of our own plugins – it seems likely that the method used to send emails is a strong factor and that isn’t something we control.

For that reason I’m going to close this topic, but if you hit other problems definitely feel free to create new topics referencing this one if needed.

    Thanks again!
