    Hi Team.

We’ve got about 125 events set up with the Events Calendar Pro plugin. One major thing that has happened as we’ve been increasing our events is the amount of time it takes to load the map. I contacted GoDaddy to pinpoint the problem and they stated that it was with the plugin itself and how it loads the events. They said one way to potentially speed up the process would be to load the events in a list (and not individually), so I’m just wondering what potential options might be available to speed up the loading process? I understand that I can set the map up to only feature a certain number of events, however we have seen from our data that our participants aren’t using the search filter like we had hoped, so if we don’t show all of the events on the map they will probably think we don’t have an event in their area when we actually do.

Any assistance you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Paul

    Hi,

    Thanks for using our plugins.

I took a look at your site and not sure there is much we can do on our end.

Loading 120+ events on one page is a huge amount of data to load and then trying to calculate everything on a map is going to take time no matter what.

Having said that have you looked into using a caching plugin like WP Fastest Cache:

    WP Fastest Cache

If you can use a caching plugin so it does not load from the db every time and the cached copy is served to visitors that could speed things up.

Let me know if you have tried that solution.

    Thanks

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for sending this over. Do you know of any other ECP clients who have had success with the plugin? It looks like it could help, but I just want to make sure before I purchase the premium package that would cache for mobile devices.

    Thanks!

    Hi Brian,

Just got off the phone with GoDaddy and they said the issue is with the Google API and how it is loading the map. They said it would be best to have someone with ECP reach out to Google to see how the API can be optimized. On our end, the event calendar is hosted on a WordPress dedicated server with built in caching, which they said is performing optimally.

Do you have any other ideas or suggestions of what other clients are doing to get around this issue?

    All the best,

    Paul

    Hi,

I had one of our developers take a look and he does not believe there is much we can do to optimize this. Trying to load all the unique venues on a map takes time and it does a decent job of it now, but he is not sure we can make enough gains to really improve it. It is something we can look into, but I do not have a timeline when that might happen.

In the meantime I visited your site today and see you are just showing U.S. events.

What if you used the event categories to separate the events by geographic region? Then you could link to North America, Europe, Australia, etc and it would show events in that region. You could even follow our themer’s guide and put a link above the map to each category view of the map to make it easy for people to find. This way instead of showing 120+ events you can show a smaller number in an area that a visitor is interested in.

Let me know if you have any follow up questions.

    Thanks

Hi Brian. Thanks for the insight. I think what I’ll do is utilize the tag feature to filter events by state and then utilize the categories feature to filter by event type. From there, I’ll just create a filter on our main site where users can filter by region/state and I can provide a link to pre-selected regional/states. Thanks for your continued help and support. I really appreciate everything you do to help clients like me out!
