ParticipantI had a ticket going with Hunter and I thought it was resolved, but the issue has persisted. The events calendar pro shortcodes and event list widget ignore category designations and shows just featured events. It is not a plugin issue (ruled out in other thread). I thought it was a theme conflict, as the problem seemed to be corrected, but it turns out that it is not (theme is entirely updated and problem persists).
Please let me know how I can get this functioning. Thanks!!

KeymasterHello again halibutblue,
Thanks for reaching out! I’m sorry about this issue with the widget and all.
I guess this is the original thread:
Could you please follow our conflict testing guide and share with me the results? This will help us eliminate any issues coming from the theme and the plugins you are using.
Thanks and cheers,

ParticipantI hit the “correct answer” button by mistake. Issue persists. I already went through the conflict test steps in my original thread & it didn’t resolve the issue, but I’m in the process of re-testing.

ParticipantIt seems to be the theme. It is completely up-to-date and still the widget doesn’t function. I remember that updating to the new version of the theme did seem to correct the problem last time, but only for a week or so (thus why I happily closed the thread, thinking the issue was resolved). I wonder since your stuff has been updated a few times since then if their theme now has to catch up.
Is there any general advice you can offer in regards to what commonly leads to theme conflicts or is it now theme developer’s problem?

KeymasterThere are a couple of things you can do.
Generally we advise users to create a full backup of the website, both files and database, before running any update. In case something goes wrong this can help restoring the site to a well working condition.
It is also useful to have a staging site where updates or any change can be first tested in a safe environment. Once you are sure the updates work as expected, you can do the update on the live site as well.
If you suspect that a recent plugin update is the cause of the malfunction, you can always go back and downgrade the plugin to the version before the upgrade and wait a bit for the other part to catch up and / or contact a support team to check it out.
In your specific case, since it feels like a theme issue try switching to a default theme like twentysixteen and check if all works properly there. If yet, then it is for sure something caused by the theme.
If you see the issue with twentysixteen as well, then you can do the full conflict test to see if there is maybe a plugin influencing that.
Let me know what you find.
Cheers,
Andras

ParticipantThanks András,
I conducted all the conflict testing with an exact duplicate of the site that’s displaying the issue.
I came to the conclusion that it was a theme conflict because I already tested the theme by switching to both Twenty Sixteen and Twenty Seventeen with only the Events Calendar plugins active. On those themes, the plugin was OK but, when I switched back to the most current version of my theme, the plugin did not function – with or without the other plugins activated.
My concern was that there have been a few WordPress updates since the theme I’m using (which I cannot change at this point) was last updated in late January. Your plugins updated a couple times too to ensure compatibility. I’m wondering if the fix I momentarily had a month or so ago was only working until I updated your plugins.
I’m going to see if it works with a version of the Pro Calendar that’s backdated. I’ll let you know if that solves it.

MemberHi Michael,
Thanks for taking the time to complete another round of conflict testing and report back with your findings! If you should need to temporarily roll back to an earlier version of Events Calendar PRO to restore proper widget functionality, you can easily access downloads for previous plugin versions from your account. You can read more about how to downgrade your installed plugins on our Knowledgebase here.
In the meantime, I’d suggest also reaching to your theme’s developer(s) to make them aware of the issue–we’ll be sure to take your comments here into account as we continue to develop and test for future releases! 🙂
Thanks again, and let us know if there’s anything else we can do to assist!

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
