Just installed The Events Calendar and the Community Events plug-in to a fresh 3.4.1 install, only other plug-ins are Akismet & Page Links To, theme is Canvas from WooThemes.
When an anonymous event is submitted everything is carried through fine except the category(s) selected.
Site is running at: http://fishingcalendar.co.nz
July 6, 2012 at 12:35 am #21620Joyce GraceMemberHello Jason,
Are you using the latest version of all our plugins?
Can you tell me the method and steps you took to create each category?
I will have a look around to see if this is a known issue others are having.
In the mean time, can you also please help me by confirming you’ve tried all of the following to rule out the most common causes for these types of errors?
1. Have you tried deactivating all other plugins to rule out a conflict?
2. Have you tried reverting to the Twenty Eleven theme to see if it’s something with your theme?
3. Try setting your permalinks to ‘postname’ in Settings > Permalinks?
4. Try refreshing your permalinks by visiting Settings > Permalinks (it does it automatically)?
5. Try increasing the PHP memory for your website: http://www.dailyblogging.org/wordpress/increase-wordpress-memory-limit/?July 6, 2012 at 12:42 am #21622Joyce GraceMemberHi Jason, can you also confirm you haven’t attempted to modify any of the plugin files?
July 6, 2012 at 12:45 am #21623Joyce GraceMemberHi Jason, I found only one other post of a user saying they had this problem, but they never replied so I’m guessing their problem was solved rather easily. https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/event-categories/
If you can confirm you’ve tried all of the above instructions and let me know what versions of the plugins and add-ons you’re running, as well as that you haven’t modified any of the files, I can try to get a higher level of support to help you out.
Thanks!
July 6, 2012 at 1:40 pm #21660Kasia KarazimParticipantI am having the same issue. Tried disabling all plugins except events calendar, events calendar pro and community and running Twenty Eleven theme, still have the issue.
July 7, 2012 at 8:00 pm #21682Joyce GraceMemberHi Kasia,
Thank you for posting this, it is very helpful.
Can you confirm you are running the latest versions of all our plugins and add-ons, and using the latest version of WordPress and also Twenty Eleven theme?
Also, have you tried all of the following:
Try setting your permalinks to ‘postname’ in Settings > Permalinks?
Try refreshing your permalinks by visiting Settings > Permalinks (it does it automatically)?
Try increasing the PHP memory for your website: http://www.dailyblogging.org/wordpress/increase-wordpress-memory-limit/?
Once I know we have ruled out all the most common causes of these types of problems, I can find out if this is a bug and if we can get some more advanced help on the issue.
Thanks!

So you’re saying this happens to you even when running the Twenty Eleven theme and no other plugins?
This is very interesting, I am going to look into it for you and hopefully have an answer soon! Thanks for your patience!
July 10, 2012 at 9:33 pm #21918mentalParticipantHi Joyce,
Yes that is correct, I’m also happy for you guys to have a poke around on the live site if that helps with testing, just email me for the access details.
Cheers, Jason
July 10, 2012 at 11:27 pm #21922Joyce GraceMemberHI Jason, I see this is happening only for “anonymous” submissions. I am going to make sure it is logged as a bug in our system and will get back to you if I have any updates or temporary solutions for now. Sorry about the trouble!
July 11, 2012 at 11:52 pm #21982Joyce GraceMemberHi Jason, I have discovered there was a similar problem to this logged a while ago, and Jonah, one of our support reps was able to fix it in the following way. He says,
“This appears to be permission related because I installed the Members (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/members/) plugin and modified the Subscriber role to the following: http://cl.ly/2v2H300C0i39473W0C3r – and was able to save categories for a subscriber.”
Can you try this and see if it fixes the issue for you? If so, please let me know the result as it will help us troubleshoot the bug more accurately.
Thanks!
July 12, 2012 at 5:51 am #21995mentalParticipantGlad you can re-produce it too now.
I tried the Members plug-in and config you supplied but the categories still aren’t being carried through 🙁
Cheers, Jason
