Event Categories

Can I have the event categories show up next to my calendar as a means of allowing visitors to filter event listings? If so, please point me in the direction of how to make this happen. I’ve tried a few shortcodes I found in the support docs but haven’t found the correct one.

Yes, that is possible! In fact, we have an add-on called Filter Bar that is designed to do exactly that. It will allow your site visitors to filter events by a number of variables, including category.

Is there a way to do it without buying the add-on? I’ve already bought Pro and the Community Calendar. I’d like to do this for free through shortcode or something.

I think it would be possible to do something similar to Filter Bar, but it would take a great amount of custom development to do it.

I’m afraid the other plugins do not have a shortcode or offer similar functionality as Filter Bar right out of the box.

One idea might be to add the event categories as links to your site’s menu. You can do that on the Appearance > Menus screen in the WordPress admin (screenshot).

Sorry for the bad news about built-in functionality, but I hope the idea of links in the menu is a good option and that this helps answer your question!
