Hi,
when importing events from Facebook with the Event Aggregator the country of the event is always saved in English, not German. (screenshot 1). This means when approving these events every single event has to be manually set to the right country (screenshot 2)
Is there a bugfix or other workaround available?
Best regards,
OliverJuly 18, 2017 at 9:39 pm #1323074CliffMemberHi, Oliver.
Thanks for reporting this.
Which would you expect to control which language the event imports as: your connected Facebook profile or your WordPress site’s language?
So, for example, if the Facebook event is in English, your site is set to German, and your personal Facebook profile (that’s connected to your WP site) has French set as its preferred language… which language would you expect the event to be imported as?
Once I know this information, I can present the idea to our development and strategy team for consideration.
July 19, 2017 at 7:07 am #1323238OliverParticipantHi Cliff,
I don’t know how the Facebook API and the logic of the Event Aggregator works, but I would recommend to use the language setting of the Facebook event.
Examples:
– There is a German website. Import events from Facebook in another language than German should be unusual. Events are mapped 1:1 from German to German.– There is a multi-lingual website. Imports from Facebook events in different languages can happen, e.g. import 10 events in German for the German part of the website and 5 in English for the English part of the website. Events should be mapped from n source languages to n target languages.
Does this make sense?
Best regards
OliverJuly 19, 2017 at 2:04 pm #1323563CliffMemberThanks for these details, Oliver.
I’ve filed the bug report internally.
Could you please link to a Facebook event that’s not in English but is importing as English, just for an example for our developers (preferably in September or later)?
I’ll mark this ticket as Pending Fix, which means this thread should receive a reply once the applicable fix has been released. I cannot guarantee when it will be fixed as it’s in the development team’s hands now. They need to assign it, code it, test it, and schedule it for release.
I apologize for this issue and appreciate your understanding and patience.
July 20, 2017 at 10:42 am #1324007OliverParticipantHi Cliff,
here are some example link to event Facebook sites that you can test it. They are regularly adding new events.
https://www.facebook.com/KaufleutenKultur
https://www.facebook.com/hafenhalle
https://www.facebook.com/jazzundduennele/eventsAnd I have to correct myself:
not the country of the event is wrong, it’s the country of the venue.Best regards,
OliverJuly 24, 2017 at 8:43 pm #1325574CliffMemberThanks.
I did a test import of https://www.facebook.com/events/1401034129927363/. On my Facebook, it looked like https://cl.ly/2J040Z0O163d. Once imported to my wp-admin, it looked like https://cl.ly/242k0o3V1F2v. Both my Facebook and wp-admin are set to US English language.
These 2 look the same to me. Is this not what you’re experiencing?
July 25, 2017 at 12:56 am #1325629OliverParticipantHi Cliff,
if you try to import from an English source system (Facebook) to an English target system (WordPress) obviously everything should work fine 😉
Can you set your WordPress settings to German and try again, please?
Then you should see the issue.Best regards,
OliverJuly 26, 2017 at 7:53 pm #1326700CliffMemberHere’s a GIF recording of me importing in a different site that is set to German:Â https://cl.ly/1y3t3q393W2n
Am I missing something in replicating this?
July 27, 2017 at 1:07 am #1326767OliverParticipantHi Cliff,
thanks for retesting! You did it the right way! 🙂
And it also show the issue – please have a look in the screenshot.
It imports the country of the venue, but uses the English translation (“Switzerland”), not the German one (“Schweiz”).This means afterwards when approving the event in the WordPress backend the country doesn’t show up in the dropdown menu (“Land”), because there can’t be a match made between “Switzerland” and “Schweiz” (see attached screenshot from backend).
I hope this explanation makes this tricky issue more understandable 😉

I added the relevant notes in the bug ticket. Once the fix is released, a follow-up comment will be added here.
