I would like to be able to identify which “events” are pulled from the calendar to the events page. For example, we have many things going on for a particular day, but only one thing that is church wide. I would like to be able to highlight the one church-wide event for publicity to all. In other words, I would like to be able to control which 3 events are pulled from my calendar to be highlighted. How can I do that?

Not sure why you mean by this anyway. If you are referring to month view you can use the option to make events sticky and show above others: https://cloudup.com/cs3RqsclwUB
