Michele
MemberBecause of some customization to our site, changing the permalinks from Default will be difficult. Have you been able to solve the problem with any other fix?

MemberOur site has been up for two years, and we just added Events Calendar Pro, which produced the error message. Aside from changing the hard-coded customization permalinks in the site, what happens generally if we change our Permalink structure at this point? Does the site adapt and go on as if nothing had been changed? Do we lose links between posts?

ParticipantHi Michele,
I cannot guarantee that changing the permalinks will not mess anything because I don’t know all of the particulars about your setup. But in general changing permalinks is a relatively harmless operation and actually provides benefits like SEO due to having more readable URL’s. My suggestion would be to backup your website so you can revert if things go awry.
Good luck!

MemberMichele: generally we encourage users running this plugin to have permalinks enabled, both because it eases integration for issues such as this one and also because it makes it a more straightforward structure for users on the frontend and is in many ways one of WordPress’ stronger features we wanted to utilize.
Generally, changing from a non-permalink to a permalink structure should be rather seamless (aside from any hardcoded links you may have). The system will usually replace any existing links with the new structure, so your site won’t immediately become useless and filled with dead links 🙂
Hope that helps. Let me know if you had any other questions here and I’ll do what I can to assist. Cheers!

MemberThanks. I guess I’ll have to try and find the hardcoded permalinks that our designer included. I’ll certainly back up before I make any changes.

ParticipantHey Michelle,
Just a follow up on this and to clarify that switching your permalinks will not impact the hardcoded links at all because all the permalinking system does is actually convert or rewrite query strings for the current page or posts in a query into whatever “pretty” permalink structure you’ve defined for links to those objects. So the hardcoded links won’t be touched at all and should be fine.

MemberMichelle: just wanted to follow-up on the emails you’d send over earlier today (though I’m doing so here so we can track the discussion in one place).
As the thread above notes…this is an issue that we’re aware of and have logged, so while we don’t have an immediate fix to get rid of the notices, the problem should only be occurring if you’ve turned such notices on. You said in your email that you couldn’t get turning off the notices to work…mind providing some elaboration on that front? We can try to guide you through the appropriate process from there, which should tide you over until we have this patched/released in the coming weeks.
