Error on Checkin: requested URL's length exceeds the capacity

After checking in 80 or so tickets, we are getting this error:

The requested URL’s length exceeds the capacity

The URI is *REALLY* long. This prevents us from checking in the other 400 attendees. Which is very bad. Please help!

Sorry for the issues you are having.

I can help troubleshoot this with you.

Unfortunately, the url’s length capacity is set by the server and we are unable to make that change.

You can try to contact your host and see if they will increase it.

Otherwise you will have to select less attendees at a time to check in and not do all 400 at once.

I guess I should provide more details. The URI is exceeding the max length that Apache supports, 8905 chars.

This doesn’t happen all the time. At some point, it seems to go from POST to GET requests? And each checked-in attendee is part of the URL.

I haven’t been able to reproduce it “offline” – it’s only been happening at the door when debugging the problem is the least of my concerns (rather than dealing with angry people waiting to get in to the event). We use a Chromebook for entry. It’s up to date. I’ll try and get someone to copy the URI and paste it some where.

I could not get the query string to increase when using the Check In Button for a ticket.

It looks like this happens if you keep using the Bulk Edit on Attendees.

It looks to me like the query string was not cleared after each bulk edit and gets longer and longer until it would hit a limit.

I am going to make a bug report to look into this.

In the mean time I would look to using the “Check In” Button instead of Bulk Edit.

And if you are using Bulk Edit to only do 4 to 5 bulk edits in a row and then reopen the Attendees Page from the event list again.

Let me know if that is what you are seeing on your site as well.

Thanks for the url.

I am seeing something similar on my end. It happens because it bulk edit does not clear the query string of the url so it gets longer and longer.

We have a bug ticket in to address this.

In the mean time I would look to using the “Check In” Button instead of Bulk Edit.

And if you are using Bulk Edit to only do 4 to 5 bulk edits in a row and then reopen the Attendees Page from the event list again.
