I am getting this error message, even though I have the “Unlimited” license:

Thank you! You have enabled a valid license. It looks like you are using this license within a multisite network. If you have 11 or more subsites or want network-level management, you need to upgrade to a multisite license. Read more about license options.

I had previously inquired about using the “unlimited” license on a Multisite install and got this answer:

If you buy an unlimited license, you can indeed use it on a mix of multisite sites and non-mu sites 🙂

Essentially if you buy an Unlimited license, think of it as that being basically the only license for that plugin that you’d need.

    See: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/is-multisite-included-with-the-unlimited-option/#post-1017977

After seeing the error message I searched the forum and found this post from one of your support agents:

You can choose to use an Unlimited license on a multi-site install if you are willing to handle upgrades and licenses on a sub-site level. The Unlimited license will not work on the network level or allow network-level activation. Generally folks with a multi-site want to be able to take advantage of network management features, and thus they would have to purchase a multisite license.

    See: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/unlimited-license-seems-limited/#post-1035090

The main reason we upgraded to “unlimited” was to be able to use it on single- and multisite installs. I had done my due diligence and asked in the forum and now the information I got from you seems to have been wrong. That is not great, to say the least.

I would like to be able to use the multisite capabilities, as promised by your colleague.

    Hey @jaapstronks,

Having an unlimited license indeed gives you full access to using the license on mu sites, non-mu sites, and so on.

In other words, the information previously shared is totally fine, and your license-holding is fine too (and greatly appreciated) – the error itself and its display is the problem.

I’m sorry for the trouble here! Can you clarify where this error appears? Is it literally in your wp-admin, or is it in your account management page here on http://theeventscalendar.com?

Hi, the message appears in WP-Admin. On the page where you enter your license code. (I posted this thread via Jaap’s account)

    Hey Florian,

I’m sorry about this – there are a few components to this. First and foremost, you have an Unlimited License and so that message can be ignored 🙂

I’m sorry that we don’t have a better handling of things if the license entered is unlimited.

However, the other part of this is that I cannot recreate this problem – can you share a screenshot of this notice in your admin? You can do so by uploading the screenshot to Imgur.com, Flickr.com, CloudUp.com, or any similar image-hosting site; then just share the links to those images here and I’ll take a look.

Thank you for your patience! I’m just trying to determine why this message is showing at all, it should not be.

    Thank you,
    George

Screenshot of the message in the network-settings (network-admin>settings>event-settings): https://www.dropbox.com/s/ibwhxokmnhnx2y0/Screen%20Shot%202015-12-10%20at%2010.33.03.png?dl=0
I get the same error on the individual sites.

When I click “Wijzigingen Opslaan” (save changes) I get the following screen: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zq9tw0pgabvcvb8/Screen%20Shot%202015-12-10%20at%2010.34.58.png?dl=0
(Cannot load tribe-common). I do not get this error on the individual sites, only in Network-admin.

Thank you for your patience with this – I will investigate why this message displays and possibly make a development ticket so that we can improve the handling of this with Unlimited Licenses.

In the meantime, I would recommend NOT “network activating” this plugin and instead just activating it on each sub-site that it is needed on.

If you do this, does that help with the notice at all? I would recommend making sure that neither The Events Calendar nor any of its add-ons are “Network Activated”.

    Sincerely,
    George

    Hi,
Hm, that’s very inconvenient. Ah well.

One more thing to help you pinpoint the issue: when I first installed ECP we only had a license for ten sites. We upgraded to ultimate at some point after the first installation.

Thank you for that tidbit of information – that actually might be part of the issue here!

Before doing the sub-site activations like I recommended above, what about if you instead first just try to remove the license key from your wp-admin?

Then, head to http://theeventscalendar.com/license-keys, and use the “Disconnect Now” links to disconnect all licenses from your site where this error appears.

Then go back to the site wp-admin, plug in that license, and see if the error arises again.

If it does, I’m very sorry – and in this case, you do not HAVE TO do the sub-site activation I recommended, because essentially that message is incorrect because you have an Unlimited License. And so then, while I know how inconvenient/annoying that message might be, you could more or less ignore it until we ship a fix for this.

I’m really sorry for all of the trouble here, @Jaapstronks. Thank you for your patience and politeness despite all of this!

    Sincerely,
    George
